Socceroos vs Egypt - 2026 World Cup R32 - Sat 4th of July 4am AEST

I'd be surprised if its not Belgium. Iran have been plucky though and Egypt have been nothing special.

Greece scored in EVERY SINGLE game of Euro 2004, but sure, draw the lazy insult rather than discuss the current failings.
Admittedly there are issues but the goal of this game was to grind out a draw and play it safe. It happens at world cups at this stage. They can work on playing attractively in future games.

OK - so here's where things stand in Group G

Current table:
Egypt 4pts +2 GD
Iran 2pts 0 GD 2GF
Belgium 2pts 0 GD 1 GF
NZ 1pt -2GD

Egypt v Iran
New Zealand v Belgium

As usual, 9 outcomes (I won't go into GD unless it's likely it affects who qualifies - at base level, I've applied 1-0 wins or 0-0 draws):
  • Egypt wins AND New Zealand win = Egypt 1st, NZ 2nd, Iran 3rd (and eliminated)
  • Egypt wins AND BEL/NZ Draw = Egypt 1st, Belgium 2nd, Iran 3rd (and eliminated)
  • Egypt wins AND Belgium win = Egypt 1st, Belgium 2nd, Iran 3rd (and eliminated)
  • EGY/IRN draw AND NZ win = Egypt 1st, NZ 2nd, Iran 3rd (and ahead of Scotland and Korea - could go through pending goal difference)
  • BOTH GAMES DRAW = Egypt 1st, Iran 2nd, Belgium 3rd (and ahead of Scotland and Korea - could go through pending goal difference)
  • EGY/IRN draw AND Belgium win = Egypt 1st, Belgium 2nd, Iran 3rd (and ahead of Scotland and Korea - could go through pending goal difference)
  • Iran wins AND NZ win = Iran 1st, Egypt 2nd, New Zealand 3rd (and ahead of Korea, Paraguay and Scotland and Group I - and through)
  • Iran wins AND NZ/BEL draw = Iran 1st, Egypt 2nd, Belgium 3rd (and ahead of Korea and Scotland - could go through pending goal difference)
  • Iran wins AND Belgium win = Iran 1st, Belgium 2nd, Egypt 3rd (and ahead of all third placed teams so far - pending goal difference)
I think the one that affects us the most re: goal difference is in the event both games end in a draw:
  • Iran has scored 1 more goal than Belgium atm, so if the same scoreline in both games, Iran gets 2nd.
  • If two goal difference, Belgium gets second (eg, Iran 0-0, Belgium 2-2)
  • If one goal difference (eg, Iran 1-1, Belgium 2-2) - then we're down to Fair Play Points. Currently Iran is ahead on that with Belgium on 3YC, and Iran on 2YC
Same sort of goes if both Iran and Belgium win - Belgium would need to win by an extra goal/score an extra goal than Iran to pip them into 1st (with the other being the second placed team)

If it's Belgium they will play more like Turkey and USA and be the protagonist

If its Iran or New Zealand less extent they will be like Paraguay and play a reactive style and play on the break.

If anything today was a good test if we play a reactive side and see how we play around that and it was quite solid and looked comfortable defensively but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.

I wonder if the coaches would prefer Belgium with their approach and therefore give our attackers more of a chance to influence the game with space in behind? I guess we will find out from tomorrow's games.

And yet you felt the need for the cheeky jab? Anyway, as someone whose team just qualified for the Round of 32 Ill take the draw and move on.
Imagine saying "Round of 32" in 2015

That game in 1997 broke my then 13 year old heart, never ever gotten over that.

I'd dearly love to see us play those cretins again and this time beat them.
If Australia plays Iran, I would love nothing more than this

Tie that pest peter hore to a chair and use whatever needed to ensure he can't blink so he has to watch.
A full room UHD monitor with surround sound
Bozza, Slater and Kewell to commentate
and the rest that never made what was a highly likely appearance at France 98 WC, give them the each an old wog yiayia wooden stirring spoon so they can hit his fucking grub fingers everytime he twitches.

It's not cheeky when it's fact. We've admitted there are issues but when you've got to just hold to advance you're not going to overexert yourself.

What round did non qualifiers exit? The round of 80? Why didn't theyebxert themselves then to qualify instead of being dull.

Good luck to Greek football though as they've got an exciting new generation coming through and I thought they stood a great chance to make this.

Were you flat at the way Greece advance in 2014 with that last gasp penalty?

Not his just his fingers mate let them go the whole 9 yards... :P

Iran still has cracks in my heart but I think it is time to go again. We're all wiser now after that heartbreaking night.

No because they attacked an Ivory Coast, with Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure and Drogba for a good 75 mins and Samaris goal in the first half was a peach...

Get past the round of 32 and we could be playing the winner of Argentina and Uruguay 😳
Appears that scenario would require both Group H games (Saudi v Verde) and (Uru v Spain) be draws. Verde or Saudi win and Uru lose or draw Verde/Saudi comes in 2nd.
