Socceroos vs Egypt - 2026 World Cup R32 - Sat 4th of July 4am AEST

I agree player development is non-linear but something doesn't add up here. This kid had his 2nd academy rejection in 2019, goes to Italy to trial where Roma accepts him, then gets Totti as his agent and makes his Serie A debut in 2021. 2 years from an A League academy reject to a big club in Serie A? That's an incredible rise.

What did Roma see that the academies in Australia didn't?
Some decisions on the surface appear perplexing, my club Melbourne Victory for instance promoting 4 youth team players yet the only kid I thought could actually step up, and often the youth teams only outlet for the season, Patrick Wall released.

Luca De Silva, a winger I thought certain to play seniors, played out of position to fit in Nissan Velupillay and Gianluca Iannucci, also released.

Teng Kuol, thought had potential to make it as a screening number 6 but continually tried as a box to box midfielder or centre forward.

I really enjoy listening to people who don't watch much football who watch someone like Morroco or even the USA. In this case it was my missus.

Her two main gripes:

Why do we pass it so slowly and always backwards?

How come our players can't shoot very hard with power like the other teams?

Sums up Australian football pretty well lol
