Socceroos vs Canada/USA Oct 25

Paramount wouldn't open for me on my TV but was able to watch on lap top.Very physical game but that's OK as our boys need to be able to stand up to that sort of play and they did.Canada's pressing in the first half really stifled our midfield and pushed Balard and O'Neill right back onto our CBs so passing options to our front players were easily cut off by them.
Rowles and Italiano were both given tough assignments against those good wingers Buchanan and Laryea which also kept us pinned down in the first half.When Bos and Miller came on those players were not as effective and Laryea in particular became frustrated.Also as usual after 60 mins the Canadian press was less intense and allowed our midfield some space and time.
Top keeping from Izzo so now if Ryan has an injury or loss of form he can step in and may even supplant Maty.Toure's run to chase down that through pass( I think O'Neill was the passer) and then his cross into the box was a great effort .Nestory coming in on the defender's blind side and sliding in shows how alert he is to goal scoring chances.When he was about to lose his rag toward the end Ryan coming on and pulling him over to the sideline so that Popa could calm him was the act of an experienced team mate .

Maybe because we won all the four games you're referring to. It's how Poppa won the Asian club Championship with WSW. Like him or hate him, Popovic took over after a home loss to Bahrain and an away draw with Indonesia, rescued our WC campaign and qualified us directly for the first time in ages. His record is 8W 3D 0L. So 11 games undefeated, including competitive H & A WC qualifiers against our bogey teams JAP and KSA. OK it's not Angeball (I would love it if we had the talent to play Angeball successfully, but we don't) but there is method in the madness. He plays to our strengths: defence. We don't have the players to dominate possession and territory. But the strategy works - the opposition - (Saudi away, Japan at home, Canada away) run up against a brick wall in the first half. At some point in the 2nd half when the opposition are tiring and frustrated, and the game is becoming stretched, with spaces opening up, he brings on fresh legs and lets our attackers have more free rein. So I wasn't dismayed by the 1st half, cos I knew what was coming, and we beat Canada away. Sure there's luck involved too but pluck brings luck. It'll be interesting to see if the US coach comes up with a srategy to counter Poppa's approach.

It should be Burgess - watch him, he's always talking to the other defenders around him, and he makes fewer errors than Circati, and his longer passing is better. He's underrated in the same way that Circati is overrated, probably because of Eng Championship v Serie A perceptions.

Against Sth American sides i reckon Burgess would be better as Circati is more suited to the European style of play.

Very curious how to watch the replay.

Thought that, if u ignore the textbook and what it means to dominate games and look at the game through the eyes of poppaball the first 85 minutes was the most comfortable game since china. We had a lot of clear chances and they only had 1

Then the last 5 minutes we nearly collapsed l

I wouldn't say "most definitely". Sure they've got a lot of very good players and some players better than ours, but they also have a bunch of MLS players. Same goes for the USA.
 
After we get smashed by the USA we will def be out of pot 2 now for sure for the world cup draw.

That was not in any way a fluke goal. It was poor defending but he was always a chance given his speed and the defender not being aware of his approach at speed. Rather than a small touch he could have sent it over the sideline.
