I saw many positives in Herrington's first and ONLY national team appearance, none of which are sufficient to get a calling to a World Cup.... He played the safe ball out a few times, stood his man up on the goal side and tracked back effectively.. ALSO quite a decent aerial screen.... and thats it? What else is so special?

Herrington seems to do everything almost effortlessly and with a certain je ne sais quoi. He always looks in control, and always seems to be in the right place at the right time, showing that he is a good reader of the game. For someone so young, especially a CB, to me he has a “presence” in the game.

In many ways this is Popa in a nutshell and also if you've watched Talay's Sydney FC there is alot of that going on also. I don't mind it as such and I can see the bigger picture in terms of an overall game strategy. It's not pretty to watch however I feel people have unrealistic expectations of what kind of football Popa is going to be playing. Qualifying for a World Cup over a 2 year plus period & travelling thousands of kilometres requires a certain tactical consistency regardless of how many players you cycle through the team. Popa has kept his players shape, formation and style as expected, when you have players coming from different leagues, different timezones, different positions and most importantly different capabilities as individuals he is trying to keep a status quo over the long term and keep things simple.

I saw some nice things in both halves despite the one nil scoreline and despite the obvious limited capabilties of the strikers especially in the first half, when he changed several players in the 2nd Half you can see him probing in his way what strikers and midfield that can play his system more effectively. In my opinion the 2nd Half changes played what Popa wants to do overall better than the 1st Half starting lineup.

Handling speed for a CB was quick.

Ability to play on both sides of the body - receive with right, pass with left, or receive with left foot, pass with right in 2 touch passing featured quick handling speed.

H is also quick on the turn, compared to similar size CBs like Souttar and Burgess.

H distributes well in limited time and space.

For someone so young he reads the play well too.

Kept his position well as part of a team unit - which could have been O’N, Ryan, Metcalfe and EZ’s poster boy, McGree , barking out orders where to be.

As you’ve noted, Mono, H heads well in 1v1 duels, he also tackles well and uses his body well in 1v1 duels. Plus H isn’t a bad jockeyer.

I saw the sequence of passes that resulted in our goal on facebook. Can't remember who put it up. The thing with it was it summed up Poppa's vision of how to play the game. Probed down the right, didn't work, back and across the CB's. On to Bos, who found his marker out of position and advanced. Passed forward into space (and he continued his run) and the ball then moved to Irankunda, who had made a numerically superior overload on the wing, he turned inside and found Okon. Short pass to Hrustic who missed and Bos following through having taken Irankunda's spot centrally converted the chance. BEAUTIFUL FOOTBALL!

I’m up to the 23 min mark compiling passes. So I’m seeing all of it.

Can’t convince Mono about his handling speed, but he is slick with his first touch and has superb composure on the ball under pressure.

If he never plays again for the Socceroos, Herrington has put in one of the great games for a Socceroo CB.

Have Roar gone backwards in defence since Her left?
 
Who’s the kid that’s playing for Motherwell? Just seen a thing on Paramount + replay he’s scored a long range goal I hope we get to see him in the squad tomorrow. And we really need to drop Boyle his day has come and passed now.

Roar have become disfunctional without him lol

He is still playing within himself, understandable being a debut. He is capable of those desperate blocks and 1v1s that u see souttar and circati do, also a set piece threat like souttar and can hit a line breaking pass. Hopefully if he gets a few friendlies he grows in confidence
 
A few things:
1. When Burgess came on Herrington switched from LCB to RCB. I don't think that Burgess can do that.
2. There are not 26+ players expecting to play CB. Well there may well be but by the time you get to the 10th aspirant, they are dreaming. Herrington can be a useful replacement for Souttar if Souttar does not get match fit in time or if another player suffers an injury.
3. He has scored for both BR and Colorado Rapids and almost did within the first two minutes in the first quarter.
4. Although Cameroon are rebuilding, most of their players play in Europe, on average they were physically bigger than the Socceroos.
