Soccer Socials (the footballer social media thread)

Doing a quick watch and I'll look again later. Looks a good channel to follow. I think the English 5th and 6th tier have had some really tense local gaes with around 8000 people. Scunthorpe going down playing nearer teams saw lots of packed local games.

the less loonies online the better - computer says No.

Noah Botić may be in trouble with the Reddit police after liking a video of Isaac Butterfield’s interview with Pauline Hanson.

What do you think? I love his videos 👍
Very interesting! Refreshing to see videos like this covering places that aren’t Europe or South America, plus also experiencing the local culture and seeing other stuff is quite cool. Far better than seeing Thogden make a fool of himself at massive games with 80,000 spectators watching him.

Ahead of the World Cup, Latin American influencers and streamers are picking who they think fans should back at the World Cup. One of the guys being shouted out is All Whites and Wellington Phoenix defender Tim Payne, who now has 543,000 Insta followers (by far more than any Kiwi player)!

What was the original story
One of the Victory Academy kids liked a video which was pretty much slandering women’s football, in particular Meikayla Moore from the Football Ferns (New Zealand national team).

The video starts off with this TikTok clip of a woman no one’s heard of yapping about something (I doubt she’s a reputable source, plenty of TikTok creators have stupid takes), then a TTS voice using that as evidence that women no nothing about football, then going on about Football Ferns defender Meikayla Moore being shit for scoring a hat-trick of own goals against the USWNT (which was obviously a shit moment for her, but it was many years ago), followed by the video pretty much summing that up as evidence of her being a shit player, women’s football being shit and then some drivel about equal pay.

I get that it’s not everyone’s thing and I’m all for jokes (even edgy ones) but it seemed like the creator was just tryna spur sexism (and the video wasn’t remotely funny). Like you could easily joke about or criticise Meikayla Moore’s hat-trick of own goals without fuelling a misogynistic comment section. And the thing is if he ever plays in the A-League he may have to come across her when she eventually comes back and will certainly come across women’s footballers at media events or awards shows. In saying that, I probably can’t judge him too much as he’s only a teenager. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes.
