SIMULATIONS - 2026 FIFA World Cup

Table for Australia after Matchday 2 - interestingly, because the table is set to sort the traditional way - we'd actually be second in the group at this point, on account of defeating Turkey on Matchday 1

View attachment 6181

I'm going to sim the first 2 matchdays from New Zealand's group to view now (and results sim for Groups J K L) and then will update where things stand for the simulation in the Paraguay and Simulations threads

Heads up - the dev team behind this mod is focusing their next patch 2.2 on National Teams - so I expect there to be updated kits in time for the full Pre-World Cup Simulation once all the squads are announced at the end of May

OK so here is where things stand heading into Matchday 3. I haven't looked at the overall 3rd places yet.

Specifically for Australia and New Zealand (since they are the two groups I'm really looking at - considering 2nd in those groups play each other - plus it has Aus and NZ)

On standard metrics, Australia would be in third heading into the final matchday - however as head to head is the primary tie-breaker now, the victory on opening day against Turkey puts them ahead (despite being down on overall goals scored to Turkey). Essentially, this means a draw against Paraguay should seal knockouts for Socceroos (as 4 is generally enough to be in the best 8 of 12 third place nations), but would be enough for them to advance as runners up should Turkey not defeat USA on the final day.

Onto Group G, and the All Whites head to the final day against Belgium with a lot on the line. A draw will consign them to third place in the group, although would most likely mean they still progress (see comments re: 4 points above). A win will guarantee that they finish second, as Iran is guaranteed top spot by virtue of victories over Belgium AND New Zealand.

As things stand, this is the third placed rankings heading into the final day:

Should New Zealand defeat Belgium AND Australia not lose to Paraguay AND USA not lose to Turkey, then the Round of 32 will see Australia face New Zealand in Dallas (I think I have my calculations correct there).

Of note, with the simulation, I can't gauge how many cards each team has - so I am not recording these, and will have to skip over the Disciplinary Record in the tie-breakers, meaning it will go straight from 'goals scored' to 'highest FIFA ranking'.

As for the golden boot so far?
Table below is sorted by Goals > Nation A-Z > Name A-Z (unfortunately cant do minutes calculations like in real life)

Alrighty, so final group standings below - we were so close to a Socceroos v All Whites Round of 32 match (and unfortunately, still miss out on Iran!)

Before I get to the knockout bracket - I'll address all the tied standings in the groups:
  • Morocco v Brazil on the standings - WOW! So that would have gone to disciplinary record to decide top of the group (match drawn between them, tied on Goal Difference and Goals Scored) - so unfortunately since I can't get that, it's been decided by FIFA Rankings (Brazil currently at #6, Morocco at #8 - I don't expect the recently released rankings to change much/at all between now and the World Cup)
  • Socceroos advance in second on head to head (tied on every stat, but crucially defeated Turkey on matchday 1), otherwise that would have gone down the same route (Turkey #22, Australia #27)
  • Belgium and New Zealand ended in a draw, so Belgium advance as runner-up from the group ahead of New Zealand on overall goal difference.
  • Colombia and Congo DR ended in a draw, so Colombia advance as group winners ahead of Condo DR due to overall goal difference.
  • Portugal lucky not to miss out on 3rd place advancement - a 3-0 loss on the final day was somehow still enough. If they lost 4-0 though, Scotland would have grabbed their spot instead.

ok that is one juicy side of the draw... and a potential USA v Iran match in the Round of 16...

well.. considering it's Easter this weekend, as well as my wife's birthday - I know I act as if I have all the time in the world, but that means will probably have to continue the simulation on Monday/Tuesday

Dang well that's a bummer.
Let's see how All Whites fare against Switzerland then

Wow, Socceroos out to Belgium - but ALL WHITES THROUGH AGAINST THE SWISS?!

Late scare, but they get the 2-1 victory, and will face Colombia or Jordan in the Round of 16
