Past Socceroos Chat

Watched it in one of the student flats in the complex I lived at the time. When Johnny slotted the penalty to qualify us, the following 30 seconds or so is a blur. I think I jumped over a couch or onto the couch but I can't be sure.

Would there be another Aussie who would make the All Time XI of their club team (excluding Australian teams)?

Chipperfield is a club legend at Basel.

Viduka is a leading goal scorer for Leeds in the EPL.
But Viduka only ranks 15th on the list of all-time Leeds scorers. English club football did exist prior to 1992.

As exciting as it is to see a better crop of youth come through I thought I'd write what a genuine "next golden generation" would look like using roughly equivalent clubs

A 2006 born player getting 29 games and 9 goals for Aston Villa (harry kewell)
A 2006 born player getting regular game time for rangers (craig moore)
A 2006 born player getting regular game time for Westerlo (Aloisi)
A 2005 born striker getting regular time and goals for Zagreb (viduka)
A 2005 born winger getting regular game time for Feyenoord (Emerton)
A 2004 born winger getting regular game time for Palermo (Bresciano)
A 2004 born mid getting regular game time for Hadjuk (Skoko)
A 2004 born mid getting regular game time for club Brugge (Okon)
A 2003 born midfielder getting regular game time for Milwall (Cahill)
A 2003 born winger getting regular time for Toulouse (Sterjovski)
A 2002 born cb getting regular game time for Tottenham (Neill)
A 2002 born defensive mid getting regular game time for Sassoulo (Grella)
A 2001 born defensive mid getting regular game time for PSV (Culina)
A 2000 born wing back getting regular game time for Brentford (Lazaridis)
A 1999 born GK getting regular game time for Milwall (Schwarzer)
A 1999 born wing back getting regular game time for Basel (Chipperfield)

That generation left some crazy high standards...some of our best young players have early careers comparable to those in the middle of that list (circati, bos, volpato, robbo, sega, irankunda)

The Daily Express in the UK ran a story about Viduka recently.

just appreciate the Duke forever despite him plugging 4 against my LFC haha
Never change my friend - dam didn't know he is a cousin of Luka's.

"Maybe that's why there is this negative perception, because I didn't conform. I was born and raised in Australia but my parents were Croatian.

"I wasn't obsessed with fame, at all. I didn't like it. I still don't. I wasn't obsessed with money, that came as a by-product. You've seen what football is like, a lot of dishonest people who try to shaft you. But I always tried to stay true to myself.
"I have that Aussie tolerance but I also have my Croatian side, I'll stand my ground if I believe in something. It's about being honest with yourself.

"A lot of players suck up to fans, coaches, journalists, and everyone loves them. But what sort of people are they when you remove all the bulls**t? Are they good people or just playing the game?"
