Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

As for the away match against Moreton City, time to play the second string XI. No need to risk players getting injured for a dead rubber.
Im conflicted on this... I see your point but also believe this momentum is VERY important.. Going 6/6 into a home QF does WONDERS for a team still gelling in such a short competition....

After that abysmal "resting of players" before the Preston game this season I NEVER want to witness this ever happen again.... Im still traumatised... BEST IX plays EVERY week for me...

What sort of team are the club gonna put our for the OFC league?

Or will the players essentially be playing 2 straight years with no rest?

Yeah cant argue against that.. have to make sure its not just a 'needing time' to adapt thing is my point.. on what we seen he not even for bench!
I hope Im wrong but not impressed so far, Habibi and Khaddour have been missing for 2 matches and have had very limited game time yet seem more invested in the minutes they have played?

You make a solid point... i think we can afford to rest a coupke without turning over the whole startung 11.. either way Mesourouni starting will be like having 13 on the park... 🤣😛

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: Oh boy, don't get me started.... I feel bad for the kid, he seems like a decent bloke, just not quite up to the task....

Its ok only pro AL players require a rest! Hahaha
Its a valid point though.... All the talk is about how groundbreaking the Bergers season has been for number of minutes on the park. Some of our players are facing 24 months + (if we make finals next year AND the Championship is run at the same time) of constant football.... 3-4 weeks off season....

You would need a squad of at least 30 players. I reckon you'd need at least 15 players just focused on OFC Pro League alone.

Best squad in NPL, with an U23s side/some older fringe NPL VIC players in OFC Pro League.

My only fear is that the go the other way around.

Look it all relative to the spoils and the money i guess.. if its a big chunk of change then why shouldnt we field a team that can win it? Strengthens our status with 2 inaugural torphies......
Championship is guaranteed, NPL can be rotateable in conjunction with the OFC. Expand the sqaud with players that are close to ready and rotate accordingly, its only impossible with a small squad, 30 players can do that hands down imo.
Shit with what weve seen id see sinisa gove it a red hot go with players like menelaou etc.

We seriously need to be careful, the npl will be super strong next year, clubs are spending bucketloads. I think our current best team needs to be the npl team. Send Menelaou, Inglese, Dovison, Halfpenny, Eliopoulos, Skapoulas etc to the ofc pro league. We dont want to stupidly find ourselves in a relegation battle again by going the opposite way.

As for how we approach this weeks game. Anyone with the slightest knock sits this out and we rotate within reason. This is not a st albans round 4 situation. This is more like resting players for the last game of the season before finals. Siki also needs to drum it into the players to not get involved in any biff or go into dangerous tackles. A red card to a key player would be brutal for us.

You can see Preston, Oakleigh, Avondale and even Bentleigh strengthening. Ridiculous money will be spent next season as everyone has seen what the Australian Championship has delivered.

We need a quality winger, a second striker, and another centre back (Jacob Eliopoulos?) as well. We’re not too far off from where we need to be.

We need to keep Aguek, Pasquali, Giannakopoulos, and Lavale at a minimum from our recent signings.

OFC Pro League can be made up of an U23 side plus some fringe NPL players who will focus squarely on that competition. If we make semi finals, then swap some better players for that part only.

NPL must be the main focus, which leads to Australia Cup and the Australian Championship.

Its all going to come down to whether we can register players for both comps. If we could i wouldnt be against sending our best team over for the first month of the ofc league, accumulate the wins then come back for npl but i feel that wont be allowed.

The coaching situation will be fascinating as well, whose coaching who from mid Feb onwards.

You definitely need a separate coach for each competition.

Sinisa - NPL, Australia Cup, Australian Championship
New coach - OFC Pro League

This is the big question bc if you can register you can alternate dependent on need, we have a pretty decent second tier side but some that we cant sacrifice from NPL end.. Dont see why registration should be issue however.

Could always go to the assistant coaches here fully! Philosophy will remain the same for players like Dovison, Pope, Campbel, Inglese, Menelaou, Spink etc hard part will be to get enough experience in there to help them all be one step above a second tier squad without sacrficing too much from the main side.
