What kind of crowd would be deemed a satisfactory result?

A crowd of 4,000-5,000 would surely be a pass mark.

What we don't want is this competition to be perceived as an extension of the NPL competition. It needs to be marketed as the second tier and something above the NPL. That will help draw out the crowds.

Also, we would need to run a major advertising blitz with 10 days to go, hand out many free double passes, and hopefully the weather is kind to us with a warm balmy evening.

A couple of things working against us. Friday nights rarely do well at Lakeside, that includes the nsl days. 7pm is not a great kick off time especially for those fighting city traffic, the weather behaving is non negotiable.

Freebies is the way to go, hand them out to the 3 big greek schools, Oakleigh, Alphington and St Johns in Preston. I dont know but this is where you expect Papastergiadis to deliver something. I just hope the club realises that Sydney Olympic is not that much of a pull here, i've said this previously if we are depending on nostalgia we will fail, the last time we played olympic at home in the nsl the crowd was just over 4,000. Its going to take a massive blitz, something like we pulled in the late 90s when we managed to get 13k to a Wednesday night game against Glory, felt like the whole seasons resources went into that.

More good ideas.. that we in this forum, have come up with better ideas etc for marketing proves yet again how badly the club has failed to apply any proactivity or foresight!

I dont recall a time in the last 2 decades where the club was under this sort of pressure to pull a monster crowd to a game. We are up first, officially launching this thing, we have to deliver on and off the field.
We went pretty hard in 2017 for our first ever Australia cup Aleague clash at home... pity the weather was absolute cataclysmic that night.

NPL GF drew 8,500 anything less than that is a massive kick in the guts for me.

To be fair many thousands of Croatians were there, it took a joint effort from multiple communities to draw that crowd.

Our situation is a lot tougher, nobody is coming from Sydney, we dont have 2 games played before ours where people stick around.

That said we are South, time to put up or shut up, talked up a big game for a long time. The club has to find a way to get a huge number through the gates.

We won't attract a crowd of 8,500. A realistic figure is 3,000-4,000. We'd be lucky to have 100 Sydney Olympic fans down for the match.
Realistically anything above 4.5 is a win at this point... you can build on that.. group doenst help.. wouldve been different if we had syd utd and the croats got behind them. The rockdale blocks will.only get the hardcore brethren at best so no hope there and qlders think its too cold.. its the next rounds that will show proper crowds

That figure puts us above 1/3 of the AL pros

The club wants both sides of the grandstands full which means they’ll be wanting 6-7k.

They have 3 weeks to market this to the casual supporters / old supporters, Greek community and schools, surrounding areas. Let’s see what happens, it’s our biggest game in 20 years if we can’t get 5k+ after pushing for this competition for 7-8 years then we’ll be an embarrassment.

Imo this is why, whilst it’s a good start to get the ball rolling, get some momentum going, make it a tangible thing that can be built on etc etc it needs to be clear that this is not the end game, and there needs to be a clear plan to go to a proper home and away league within 2-3 years, because otherwise this will wear thin and lose momentum pretty quickly

Rock and hard place.. metrics need to be there now as FA has said to keep it going but they cant be when its gone out of its way to water it down from the get go!
Hopefully the metrics are not just crowd numbers!
