Pretty big financial implications if we lose the home final as that elimination final against Preston will be bigger than the gf.
Spot on.

If we host the Elimination Final, then all attendees are paying given memberships don’t gain entry to finals matches. Thats another significant pay day on the line if we lost to CS George Cross.

We have dropped so many points in the league this year. We’ve should not be in this position requiring a point against CS George Cross to lock in a home finals match.

Now with 3rd spot gone, to win the league will require wins against Preston, Oakleigh and Avondale/Hume. That is very tough but it is what it is.

Lets be honest the season comes down to Wednesday night. How we look back on it at seasons end will depend largely on this result.

I really didnt see the need to have so many youth players in the team today. We could have given the likes of Yoo, Uchida and Retre 40 odd minutes, Jankovic should have been on the bench. Thats how Preston did it yesterday but for some reason we go nuts and leave everyone out.

Value for membership has been dire this season, we've played with a full strength team at home maybe 5 times.

and this years NPL Finals.
need to rid the stains of losing 3xGFs (smashings), flopping 2025 NPL & making a mess /imploding B4 OFC GF
Also for giving senior games this year 2026 to far too many duds & devaluing the heavy smfc jersey

To win the championship we would have to beat Preston, Oakleigh and then Avondale/Hume. I reckon thats harder than the path to win the Australia cup.

Todays missing players need to play blinders on Wednesday night.

For South to win on Wednesday it will need to play a near perfect match. We will need big efforts from all players that were rested.

Good thing is we have Lampard, Mikkola and Menelaou back. Those are big ins. We’ will have a near full strength team on Wednesday. Seven players were fully rested.

We have given ourselves the biggest chance to win one of the biggest matches of the season. We need to make this sacrifice count.

A fully rested and injury free South only needs 1 thing to beat Preston.. Juach and the front line to bury our chances!
It was interesting that both forwards got full games despite our entire midfield being out, service was always going to be rubbish today.

Slight concern on the gosls Javi Lopez copped today, they were good strikes but i feel he should have kept the first out, the 2nd he didnt move. We cant let Preston bombard us. Have to win the midfield battle and keep defensive set pieces/corners to a minimum.

2nd he had no chance was a bullet however agreed on the first. That one especially was disappointing how slack the marking was from the throw. Even Sinisa had a word to jnr after the goal.

was good at least to see us getting our injured players back. Curious with ramazani playing today if Eliopoulos might be available for Wednesday, maybe i'm looking too much into it.

thought Fawcett did pretty well off the bench in his first senior appearance for the club after joining mid window.

I'd say Eliopoulos no chance and probably no chance this season.

It seemed pre planned that Ramazani would come off in the 60th, he will be starting on Wednesday 100%. Personally i would have liked Rama to have seen out the game and help us get the point we needed.

We have given Heidelberg 6 points this year whilst fielding severely weakened sides.

Excluding the 1-0 win over Bentleigh at the HOTM, we have only won 3 matches at Lakeside this year! At Lakeside, we have 3 wins, 1 draw, and 8 losses !

You could argue all the loses at home have been compromised in one way or another. The only 2 we went super strong in and still lost were the altona and gully games but that was still the fallout from the Sinisa sacking and return. Every other Lakeside defeat we've either fielded under 23s due to ofc or did what we did yesterday (over half the team out)

As a member its been frustrating going to Lakeside time and time again this season and seeing this. Now if we lose our next 2 games we are done at Lakeside until the Aus championship.

Absolutely no reason why Yuki, Yoo and Retre for eg couldnt play a half yesterday, Jankovic could have come on for Ramazani in the 60th. This is essentially how Preston fielded its team on Saturday, why we go all out with youth or fringe players that arent up to it baffles me.

The last 30 mins yesterday was basically the reserves, and we got overun.

"Frustrating" is being kind .... They say if you repeat the same "move" over and over again and expect a different outcome then you are either crazy or stubborn. At least this time we have Javi and hopefully a ref not swayed by occasion.

I’m caught in two minds on how to react to today’s loss to Heidelberg.

I’m annoyed that we gave up a lead and allowed them to win. I’m annoyed that if the result had stayed 1-1, then we would have locked in fourth spot and next week’s match against CS George Cross would have been a dead rubber.

However, I’m mindful of what is at stake. This is our best opportunity to make the Australia Cup grand final. It also presents the club another opportunity to potentially host a semi final and attract a 2,000-3,000 crowd that would be a major pay day.

Today’s match showed how bad Heidelberg is. We hardly had any first team line up starters and we were in control of the match. A full strength South team would have smacked Heidelberg 3-0.

As others have said, once Ramazani went off, it was a case of the kids trying to hang on. There were hardly any experienced players remaining on the pitch. With the loss of Menelaou in the middle of the pitch, we started to lose the midfield battle.

We now need to get a point at CS George Cross. Happy to take an uneventful 0-0 draw.
Nothing much can be said about that apathetic match. Like others, Im willing to temper my anger, Wednesday night means more at this stage. Watching an overwight A league hack celebrate in front of our fans after scoring against our U20s was quite sad, I felt sorry for them. Only laughs on the night was watching Harry and his mobile DJ/Only Fans setup get kicked off the pitch by security and some fan's rendition of the orgasm scene from "When Harry met Sally" after our tap in goal... WTF was that? hahaha Im still laughing.

Are we holding on to Sinisa for finals (Championship) or is he at Avondale for both of those? He seems to have already checked out..

Looking at the respective benches yesterday and the body language it looks like both coaches have checked out. Genuinely now believe JA will be at South in a months time.
I heard an interesting theory that it might be an another ex Hellas player wearing the oversized blazer with the SMFC crest on it very very soon. Who knows, I think most of us are mentally done.. Lose on Wednesday and we can sit back and lick our wounds and hope to at least defend the Championship crown.
