Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

The biggest difference in quality between the teams was the crossing, a few of the balls Adelaide whipped in from out wide was like watching Boutsianis back in the day, whilst ours were dreadful, which shows what an effort it was to not give Adelaide any corners at all. We would be a pretty complete team if we cleaned up that part of our game.
Our crossing has been average all season. Our corner taking has been atrocious. I just don't understand why we continue to persevere with these stupid short corners that hardly work. Put a good cross in from the corner kick and get it onto the head of your team mate. It is not rocket science.

Surely they are practising corner kicks and crossing in training ???

Last night was just a reminder how important this club to us all. We don't always agree with decisions and we don't need to but 1 thing that was amazing when we all came together in the grandstand as one at the final whistle to cheer Hellas the loudness of that gave me goosebumps.

Basically many have been supporting for 40 or plus years, 4 years or 4 months it doesn't matter Hellas is a member based team and that showed last night that we are one.

I think it's time for all differences to be put aside all shake hands and move on as one. He said they said he did they did doesn't get us anywhere. Who ever is reading this please for the love of Hellas lets all bring everyone together and lets show everyone who we are.

The one corner we didn’t go short with almost ended up in the fucking grandstand.

That and the speed of passing were the glaring differences to me. Skill, creativity, pace and discipline I think we showed all of thise attributes last night, it was actually a pretty complete performance as those of us that bother to turn up week in week out could attest to. Certainly defensively we look less "last ditch effort" and more purposeful. Jake Painter Andrews has turned around his mini-slump in my oppinon and has been immense in the last 2 games... Tommy, Rama and Marco playing as almost rotating CBs is an actual breath of fresh air.. Its what led to Rama having the time and space to make the run for the winning goal. Speaking of which mark my words (if no arsehole Aleague clubs poaches them) We'll be talking about Yuki and Yoo combination goals to our grandchildren.

As for crosses int the box, Im not sure thats a skill issue or more that we lacked Eliopoulos or a BIG #9 like Harry or Ajay or even the flying Danski like in the past and we just dont train for it?

Good to see Preston drop points at home to Green Gully. That means a win against St Albans on Sunday will move us up to fourth.

If Avondale and Heidelberg draw, we are a chance to pinch third spot. Finish third and we likely face CS George Cross at Lakeside and then travel to Hume City for the Preliminary Final.

Anyway before I get too far ahead of myself, let’s start off by getting a 1-0 win over St Albans Dinamo.

Starting XI is tough to pick this week given Thursday’s match and needing to rest some tired legs.

I reckon we could see the following:

Charlston
Nkwomo
Ramazani
Jankovic
Painter-Andrews
Giannakopoulos
Pasquali
Yoo
Lackay
Cocks
Swibel

I can see Retre, Uchida and Juach starting from the bench just in case they need to come on for 20-30 minutes. The sheer number of injuries (Mikkola, Eliopoulos, Lampard, Menelaou, Lopez) is robbing us of the opportunity to rotate the squad more.

We are going to ask for a lot of these players who are going to back up after an intense midweek Australia Cup match. Fresh legs in the second half will be key to holding onto a result.

So dates for round of 16 are 8th - 12th August. Lakeside holds Dockery Cup on 8th could we possibly play on 11th gives pitch a few days to recover

Not sure on the logic of such a late start. Being a bye weekend in Victoria something around 5pm would have been perfect, like the time we played Brisbane Olympic in 2024. We got 2,500 to that one, not getting anywhere near that next Sunday.
It’s definitely not ideal. I would have preferred a much earlier kick off time. The only reasoning that could potentially explain this kick off time is either the Stadium Management require additional time to get the ground ready after the Dockerty Cup Grand Final, or it is at the request of the TV rights holder.

With such a late kick off, Fremantle City will fly out Monday morning after arriving Saturday afternoon.

Mixed results for South today. With Hume City and Avondale winning, it looks like second and third spots are now probably beyond our reach. At most, we finish fourth and host a final.

Win tomorrow against St Albans Dinamo, and we move 6 points clear of 7th placed CS George Cross.

If Preston is deducted more than 6 points, I can’t see them playing finals. That would mean CS George Cross and Heidelberg would sneak into the top 6. We would likely host one of them.

We just gotta hope to keep winning and hope those above us slip up.
