Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Painful to see the club put these kids in this position.

Really hits home that we forfeited all these games for nothing in the end.
Kids did amazing last night and a huge well done to the few faithful that did the right thing and attended... Van Riet, Angelatos, Kanfunda, Di Lorenzo.... these kids are now battle hardened and useful players.. AND still have 1-2 years of U23s development... Papadimitriou and Dovison are first squad players.. I mean Tierry had Floparolli in his pocket the whole match.. twisting and turning the old prick and STILL couldn't score against us even though he is banging them in for fun against NPL clubs that are apparently taking things seriously... pffft...

Definitely as part of improving and strengthening the playing list for the latter half of the NPL Victoria season as well as the Hahn Australia Cup competition proper and Australian Championship we also need to think about which players will be deemed surplus to requirements and subsequently culled from the Hellas organisation altogether.
The wheels are well and truly in motion...

Disagree, they were very good, technically better and were able to play out of tight spots comfortably, quicker all over the field as well.

We tried to overwhelm them with more direct crosses/set pieces but they dealt with it easily, more due to our dogshit crossing.
What is fascinating is that I watched the A League Grand Final, and the Auckland team (or was it both Auckland and Sydney?) were just as bad as South Melbourne when it came to crosses and other dead ball attacks.

Talk about ironic!

True, of those 4 sides that played over the weekend the Auckland ofc team was the only one that resembled a proper football team.

When did we press them for them to be in a tight space? After Eliopoulos got injured we pretty much gave them the midfield and tried to play through it for some reason.. They hit over the top with the turn over and that was the whole game... I don't think we kept possession or control of the ball for any 5 min stretch in the second half...

That they were quicker, no doubt at all, that they whre drilled excellently no doubt but their second goal was Esteban.... he may as well have been on the sidelines yelling out "Gerry.... Gerry"" :ROFLMAO:

An Esteban goal is bundling the ball over the goal line from a long throw/corner or set piece, which we tried to do on Sunday lol
No that's Arteta ball... :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Speaking of which in the first half Max threw, at least what looked like, 70-80- meters into the box... Ive seen them all but this blew every other throw in away...

Any particular reason why Menelaou, OSullivan, Leech, Pope, Bonada, Singh, Coveny etc cant line up tomorrow night? Bonada played a half, the ones that came on much less, and others werent used at all.

We would still lose with those players but we have to try save our goal difference a bit.

Our goal difference has been smashed over the last few weeks. We need to score a few goals in the next month to get it back into positive territory.

I dont want to rely on goal difference i want the points on the board now.. we got lucky bc preston and georgies have been utter crap when it matters, we have tp accumulate points now.. after all we dont have the front line for massive scores to quickly revers this.

I dont get why Sinisa gave up on the game so quickly with those subs at 2-0. Its not like any of them are gonna play tomorrow night.
Apart from Cocks, Sinisa didn’t have many attacking options on the bench. Singh, Lackay and Mesourouni would not make a difference. This is where we required Manny Aguek to come on and turn things around.

we will be the time we face the top 6 teams :) - Apart from Hume sadly.

We can beat Hume with our best 11 minus Eliopoulos. We cant beat them if its the bums that got smashed by Bulleen.
I dont think it will be like that... We are going to have a few players let go, its speculation who but a few of them looked "apart" from the group waiting to return at the airport... but our core is going to play Hume... Dont think the lads dont realise what was as a club and a fanbase sacrificed to give them a chance to play as international pros for a few months... They understand how heavy the shirt is..
