Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Ok so we have no chance tomorrow. What i dont get is why not just send Janko and Eliops to ofc as well to be a complete team and make sure we absolutely win both games? Where is Lampard?

Young players needed to be blooded alongside a mix of experience. Gully will kick our kids off the park tomorrow and we likely lose by a big margin.

With the fact that 3/4 of our best defence stayed back shows they're aiming to at least get a result first. Could be interesting dovison and skapoulas have showed at times they have enough quality for the wings and Ethan has showed he's a handy no nonsense right back as you say the other youngsters will need to step up. Im surprised we went 18 to ofc would have kept it at 17 with 1 more staying in Melbourne myself

You cant just have the backline and thats it. How is a midfield of reserves players going to handle a physical Gully? How are we going to keep the ball in our attacking half with no forwards?

Against Altona you had players with npl experience Leech, Pope, Menelaou and Bonada and even then we werent gonna get anything until the red card.

Ita disheartening giving away games like this. We better win both ofc games!

Not sure why we sent Menelaou or Leech to Honiara. I would have kept both of them back in Melbourne, and sent Pope to Honiara.

Going by that team pic posted earlier by @Mangia, we have the following players in Melbourne - Lopez, Jankovic, Eliopoulos, Lampard, Pasquali, and Bonada. We have half our first team starters playing tonight. I don't think we will get smashed. The odds are definitely stacked against us - but Green Gully have not been great this season so far.

O'Sullivan should be OK. He's decent enough to play against the weaker NPL teams. It all comes down to the likes of Dovison, Skapoulas and Papdimitriou. Big ask of the young players, but we need Dovison and Skapoulas to be solid and minimise the mistakes.

To be honest - I would not have sent more than 16 players to the Honiara hub. That's your starting XI plus 5 substitutions that includes your second goalkeeper. That's enough to get at least 4 points from that hub.

This is where we needed Leech and Menelaou to hold the ball up and provide coverage to the defence.

Problem is if we somehow get injuries or cop a heatwave in first game, then we will need the full complement of 16.

There will probably be an even bigger squad sent over for the 3 game hubs!

Here's some gossip for you. Doesn't look like Hellas will be back at Lakeside any time soon. The Grand Prix set up hasn't been removed yet because apparently they have put in a bid to take the race from Saudi Arabia which is supposed to be held in two weeks and they're trying to get it to be run here in Melbourne because what's going on Overseas.

Home of the Matildas may as well be a second home for South Melbourne at this rate given that we'll be having three games in the league played there this year assuming those rumours are correct, in addition to some of the OFC Pro League matches during the Melbourne hub.

It takes afew months to be completly removed. This process starts on Sunday once the race ends. I drove past yesterday and crews were hard at work..

So how big a floggingdo you predict?? 5 nil, 6 nil or an all time thrashing 15 nil????

I very much doubt we even lose let alone get spanked.

I think more so South end up getting the rout over Green Gully as opposed to it being the other way round seeing as they're currently in wooden spoon position, winless through four matchdays and have the worst for and against in NPL Victoria in addition to having conceded the most goals in the entire comp, and our playing list that's staying in Melbourne seems decent enough to be able to get the job done.

If Campbell Dovison is able to replicate his form from the Dockerty Cup final then we should be fine going into our road game against Green Gully.
