Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

If we defeat the Solomon Kings on Wednesday, we will be 1 point from top spot, 4 points from Solomon Kings in third spot with a game in hand and 9 points ahead of Vanuatu in fourth spot with a match in hand as well.

If the rumour circulating at the Home of the Matildas is true that the Tahiti United catch up match will be played in Melbourne, then we could be realistically locking in a top 2 finish with those wins in the catch up fixtures.

That gives us the breathing space in the OFC Pro League to back off with some of our best players and have them focus on the NPL Victoria competition.

In the Honiara hub, we face Vanuatu United and Solomon Kings. We should be able to beat Vanuatu with a weakened side and at least draw against Solomon Kings. During that hub we face Green Gully and Dandenong Thunder away. Important to get those 2 wins in the NPL.

We were lucky Magic was so bad to be fair.. that lineup against better opposition would get destroyed... Penny finally dropping as to how bad Lackey is? Singh is also useless.

More than happy with the 3 points however... means we go into bentleigh game with less pressure..... 3 points at HOTM would be icing on the cake especially after a win vs S Kings!

That is the ideal outcome of the next week.
Disagree about Lackey... Better ceiling than Messouroni, kid sonly 18... give him time. Scored a great golaki and his head picked up... Played well against Altona, second gaol was hus work ourside the box to drive in.... Sure he makes mistakes but again 18 years old.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt given his age, but geez he had a shocker against Hume City !

Bentleigh is a must win as Gully/Thunder are likely losses. If we can be 3 and 3 after 6 rounds that would be huge.

Agree - the Bentleigh match is must win.

The Gully and Thunder matches will come down to which players we send to the Honiara OFC hub. I think we should hold back 5 of our first starting XI to balance the needs of the NPL Victoria competition. This may include Bonada, Lopez, Eliopoulos, Painter-Andrews and Pasquali. You would still have players such as Inglese, Menelaou, O'Sullivan, and Leech to help fill out the starting XI. It would mean playing just a couple of youth players to fill up the numbers, rather than what we did against Altona Magic.

Three straight wins in the NPL Victoria competition whilst balancing the OFC matches against Vanuatu and Solomon Kings (you'd want at least 4 points in that hub) would leave us at the end of March very well placed across both competitions. Its a lot easier said than done!

win on Wednesday and at least 4 points in next hub sees us pretty much lock in top 4.... can send the "kids" to Fiji for a holiday I reckon...
The last hub of the regular OFC Pro League season in Fiji falls on the Preston and Oakleigh matches. We need all of our best players for those NPL Victoria fixtures.

Otherwise, win the next 3 OFC Pro League matches against Solomon Kings twice and Vanuatu and you are effectively guaranteed a top 3 finish. Then send a weakened side to the Fiji hub. You can make up any lost points in the last hub in Auckland during the Leaders Group stage.

Thats exactly what Im saying :)

The half/half idea is risky as you risk losing in both comps. We had Jankovic, Swibel, Pasquali start against Hume and had Bonada, Yuki and Tommy G on the bench and still lost.

Shit start aside Gully and Thunder are way better than Altona. Im leaning towards sending our best team to Honiara and cleaning everything up there.

Of course our next 2 games will factor in heavily to what we do.
