Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

you are correct we can't sign anyone as our 23 man senior squad is already registered for ofc under fifa. I believe we would only have been able to add ressie players to our u23/ u20's
Pretty sure it was you that enlightened us of this from tge get go! We all had the same question...lol

I must have misunderstood though as I thought the RULES of registration are different between two competitions.. For example Singh is unable to play NPL because we have used our VISA spots on Yuki and Bonada and only OFC allows for an extra Oceania player?
Incorrect Singh is on our npl roster also. Was explained Its at the agm that its one 23 man squad registered under fifa. Npl rules are 2 imports plus 1 Asian. So that's our 3.

ok ..... tiddlywinks time is over .......

I assume we will have a full strength team this week against Avondale.

Then the guessing game begins.

Personally, I want us to focus on the NPL, but what happens to our reputation if our Under 23's start getting pummeled in the OFC?

As i've mentioned previously i think we go all out to pick up 12 points in this hub, then hope we have enough on the board to gamble with the under 23s in the last 2 hubs. I think its top 4 we need to finish in ofc.

We need to finish top 3 in order to avoid the playoff match between 4th and 5th spots.

Agree on the need to win all 4 matches in the Melbourne hub. We can then prioritise the NPL during the fourth hub in Solomon Islands where we face Vanuatu and Solomon Kings.

In the event of clashes with OFC Pro League particularly for the Honiara hub, we’ll need to play these players in the OFC hubs:

Charlston
Leech(?) Inglese Coveny Burchmore
Cocks (?) Menelaou Lackay
Singh Pope

Struggling to find other replacements apart from U23 players from youth side.

Thats atop 2-3 line up to be fair....
We won the Australian Championship for a reason. We've lost our 2 best strikers and Marshall. If Eliopoulos stays fit, we'll be OK. If Swibel can continue to bang in the goals, and get to about 10-15 goals in the NPL, we'll be OK.

In an ideal world, players like Brice and Lesiotis would make our team a definite top 1-2 table finish.

For me, the next transfer window will be crucial. If we can pick up 1-2 quality players from either interstate or from the OFC Pro League, then we'll be very strong for the run home in the NPL plus the Australia Cup.

That team probably wouldnt pick up a point lol. They may not need to though!
That's the thing. Apart from Charlston, Inglese, Menelaou, Cocks, Leech, and maybe Lackay, there's not much after that.

Kids like Burchmore and Coveny are youth players who are still raw and developing. They need time in the U20s and within 2-3 years should be in a position to be playing NPL. I don't think Pope has progressed in his development. As for Singh, he is simply not up to the required standard.
