Just an awful match to watch. A starting XI that I hope to never see start again.

No goals from open play. Terrible defending on both goals. Mikkola just watch the Vanuatu player score their second goal. Coveny turning over the ball under a basic forward press.

Those conditions would have been terrible to play in, but in all seriousness, some of the errors were unacceptable.

Coveny had no pressure at all on him! Just plain crap decision.
Second goall had 2 out of position and no centreback in sight to clear that ball.

Conditions need to be looked at and perhaps times of tournament changed.
 
To me its not a matter of prize money, a home and away 2nd division where every 2nd week we are at lakeside and its our primary competition trumps this hub bullshit playing against rugby teams overseas. The ofc pro league would have to be super lucrative and i dont believe it is, and im pretty sure we are paying our own way as well.

Realistically are we gonna get more than 200 ppl at the village for the top of the table clash against Auckland?

Im trying to do the lineup math for.both comps in my head and what keeps coming up is:
1. we have to be super careful not to burn out uchida!
2. Bonada seems out of form and perhaps better suited only to NPL.
3. The second string even with leech etc dropped into it is basically still just a mediocre NPL side that will struggle.
4. Coveny and inglese as centreback duo will bury us in NPL when called upon.
5. We will have to clone Lopez.

Question can Singh play NPL?

That fear of tanking both at the Honaiara junction is very very real....
 
I think i read somewhere that Singh is only for ofc. Agree that Bonada should be left behind. Our defence is a huge worry, we are copping so many against these dud teams how can we compete in npl? I honestly dont know how we pull this off. Avondale is a must win because it gets brutal from the following week onwards.

I very much doubt we’ll see much of Singh moving forward. He was truly terrible.

Coveny is trying his best, but I reckon more time in the U20s would do him some more good. I don’t think he’s quite ready yet to step up and play senior football.

Bonada hasn’t set the world on fire to be honest. I agree - retain Bonada for the NPL Victoria competition.

Singh should never play for South again. No disrespect to the kid, but he’s clearly not up to it at this level.

Coveny should spend some more time in the U20s to help with his development. He may be needed in a few more OFC Pro League matches to provide rest to Jankovic and Eliopoulos.

I’m comfortable with Charlston being the second keeper and sharing the OFC Pro League duties. Lopez can focus on the NPL Victoria competition until the OFC Pro League finals series.

Uchida needs to be rested in order for him not to burn out. Otherwise he can only play one half in certain OFC Pro League matches.
 
Obviously Coveny is raw and not up to it. That leaves our natural cb options as Jankovic, Eliopoulos and Inglese. Thats not what you want playing in 2 comps. We really needed to at least hang onto Spink.

I called it on Bonada last week. We need to be realistic about how much he can do this season, and lets be honest he was just ok in the Aus championship, his best work is probably off the ball with his pressure but im not expecting him to do a heap with the ball.

Lots of pressure on Pasquali, Gianokopoulos and Uchida to win thw midfield battles.
 
Prize money of 450k means the tournament prize money all up is 1.8 mill. There was a document that said first gets 25% second 15% and the rest 10% so teams are guaranteed 180k just for fronting up

Just fronting up probably doesnt cut it for us if the whole venture is coming out of our own pocket which is easily going to be six figures.

Perhaps if we win it different story, but its not the riches many imagined. Not even having a genuine home hub where Lakeside isnt even used makes it so much worse.
