Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

We will probably need a strong transfer window in July. If its any consolation compared to this time last year we are way stronger, the only recruits were Danish joke up front and Mells. At least you have Uchida, Pasquali, Giannokopulos now (stronger midfield). That said a few injuries will be problematic.
Feels like such a wasted chance to have created a new legacy, with that midfield being so solid and properly tweeking the front line shouldve allowed us to focus on plugging the backline and replacing marshall... no huge spending even needed just a focus on improvement.. depth was there imo... cocks and the MV kid seem good squad players and im giving Swibel ths benefit of the doubt but not one of them ever screamed improvement in any way.

Yeah unfortunately our standouts are the guys we recruited for the championship. I think perhaps a hint of desperation with the players we got in. I sympathise with the up front situation but not targetting an absolute gun CB to replace Marshall is unforgiveable as we knew Jakey was leaving midway through to the championship, no disrespect to Eliopoulos but we are well behind the premier centre back pairings in Vic now.

Dont think anyone at SMFC would think relegation from NPL is in any way acceptable... especially not the fans! A mid table finish i dont mind if we get a good run and defend our AU championship, especially after having won say the OFC.. ideally though ... id want it all.... and that shouldve been the vision/focus when we recruited.. building on a successful side bc its not like we didnt have an understanding of what was required...
With how we're running in OFC Pro League right now I won't be surprised if Sinisa thinks a mid-table finish or relegation from NPL Victoria are acceptable outcomes for us even if we do well in the Australian Championship, Dockerty Cup and Australia Cup.
Yeah I agree with Hellenic, I very much doubt Sici doesnt understand the importance of NOT being relegated.. He was brought in to fight a relegation battle to begin with.. All other success has led him to have further opportunities, he WON'T throw the league away on purpose....

Is that meant to be a surprising scoreline? Whats been left behind isnt anything to get excited about. Hopefully Lopez isnt getting his confidence smashed by these beatings we have taken.

Our fixture list later this month is frightening.

The big concern is the 3rd relegation spot. You would assume even if everything turns to shit melb city and altona are likely to be bottom 2, the rest of the teams have spent pretty big $$$. Then you have the St Albans types who always seem to get out of trouble.

Lets see how things go tomorrow, if we crap the bed against Vanuatu we may need to pull the plug on the ofc.

Given the setup of the OFC comp and no home game advantage for us we can afford to tank some and still make final when we switch on the serious - we would like to believe... imo if we can take out max points in AU hub it allows us then to rotate and focus on NPL with comfort to not struggle from the get go even if we drop couple early NPL games... fear is we stay in limbo and tank both, what a disaster that would be!

Need to prioritise NPL now otherwise it’ll be a repeat of last year. Shocking depth!
Dont know how they sat down and worked out that this squad was able to do this many games and comfortably or that it was anywhere near on par with the championship side... Im still of the opinion OFC should be priority bc it is the biggest exposure possible..

A 30 man squad could do both easily but not with Singhs and Messarounis!

I believe Jankovic has left the hub early and returned to Australia for Jake Marshall’s wedding this weekend
normally i would say given last games that would be to our advantage except now we will see Giannakop & Coveny centre backs.... what a disaster that can be....betting companies should have odds on who and when the first ball turnover in the backline will be! No quality CB and those keepers, FML.
