Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Where do you start to breakdown today’s awful performance. We could have played for another 5 hours and we would never have scored.

That goalkeeper Shalamanov-Trenkova is simply not up to it. Poor positioning and never came out to punch the ball from that corner. But also, there was also poor marking at the near post.

Even Yuki wasn’t great. We struggled to move the ball quickly and into attacking positions. The final ball kept letting us down. It really was not our day.

I get it that the heat and humidity are factors, but thats no excuse for today’s performance. Simply unacceptable.
These pitches are very spongy and we cant move the ball around like we are used too... Yuki needs the ball at his feet to create and distribute.... Messourouni is the only player on the WHOLE playing squad that wont lose his position on the team if he doesn't press, young Ilya is NOT a Hellas keeper yet.... there are lots of things to pick apart from yesterday but really it all boils down to us being out of gas after 10 mins of play.. A loss is a loss, we move on league is more important.

That was a huge win in the scheme of things. To start the match with just 4 first team senior players, 7 U23 players and a bench comprised of just kids is quite the feat !

I must say some of these young players have real talent. They’re still raw and essentially youth players, but tonight’s match will give them invaluable experience and further their development.

Eliopoulos had another massive match. All senior players stood up today and had great performances. Special call out to Saristavros. Scores on debut and was the difference in the end. Dovison ran all night. All the young kids put in a big effort to be fair.

Sinisa left during the last 10 minutes so he could head to Melbourne Airport to start his travel to the Solomon Islands. Now that is dedication! Which means they’ll be back before next week’s fixture against Dandenong Thunder.

Tonight’s starting XI was actually made up of full of Greek players! Added bonus !

With tonight’s great win over Gully and other results, we remain top of the league for another week.
Yesterday's hiccup in the Solomon aside, Friday night was the GREATEST South win Ive seen in a very long time.. Not because of the opponent, or the relevance to the table or the result or skill or margin.. Just the fact that it was a bunch of South kids that tore their lungs out to press and create chances.... very very proud of them.

If we are going to be gassed after 10 mins whats the point of tiring out some of our key players?

We may just have to cop the loss on Thursday and potentially 4 defeats in Fiji and then reload for the last hub in Auckland where you know our players wont be dead 10 mins into the game.

I still suspect we only need 2 wins in the ofc to guarantee finals but this is starting to become difficult to navigate.

Also those 2 draws in the earlier hubs are coming back to bite us, both games should have been over at HT.

The 6 first team players that didnt go to Honiara are all high quality, what they've been replaced with is slop. More impressed with the kids that played on Friday. The fact that Saristavros looks better than Swibel and Co is alarming.

Ive been sceptical of this OFC thing from the start... we are spreading ourselves too thin and barely holding on at the moment... The squad playing yesterday was not all slop, they just played like it... yesterday. The only people that care if we win or lose OFC now are the wonder-twin presidents, I just want this whole fever dream to be over so we can make sure we dont stumble in the league.

I reckon Sinisa would have absolutely gone through them with in the dressing room after the match. Under lights on Thursday night will be easier for the players and they would have acclimatised by then. I'm expecting a very different match on Thursday night. No guarantees we'll win, but we have to go for it as it would put less pressure on us in the next Fiji hub.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of Saristavros. He's a young kid so he'll be up and down in his performances. If he's able to score again on Saturday against Dandenong Thunder, then Sinisa should look at him as a serious option to come off the bench when chasing results during this season. He's better than Singh, so would prefer to promote our very own developed youth players.

I felt sorry for Yuki yesterday, had his worst game for us but really every time he got the ball he had nothing ahead, often had to try turn backwards and be negative and got himself into bad situations. 9 games in the Aus championship and he probably never went backwards once. We cant just have Cocks as the lone outlet. Swibel and Messourouni cant both start on Thursday.
