Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

I think proximity is the main thing, the elderly see going to Lakeside as daunting, potentially fighting city traffic depending which way they're coming in from. Our middle aged demographic dont seem to bring the fathers.

Bergers elderly likely live in the Darebin area or its fringes. Super loyal i remember most of those old farts from like the early 90s, but its a depressing environment.

I saw the Greek dancing that sydney olympic had pre game today and i just dont see that sort of thing resonating with our crowd demographic.
The DJ pre-match was great and really created a good atmosphere. It has a cool vibe that is attracting younger fans.

Im not going to get carried away until we show we can get the job done on the road. The 3 away games will be very difficult. For now all we've done is "hold serve" really. Moreton have played twice away and i highly doubt they'd be that poor at home.

Will say one thing on the crowd, its good to see how young the crowd demographic was again.

Just so weird going to Heidelberg last week and seeing over half the crowd being in the 65+ age bracket compared to our 2 home games. I think our elderly nsl contingent wont travel to lakeside anymore (many are still alive) but we are proving to be a hit with the younger generations.
Sunday is a lot more "family friendly" Brought 5 kids from 16-4yo ... great feed, icecreams for the littel ones and despite the ominous weather it didnt rain until we were on they way home... They had a great time ... lots of families around us.... its starting to feel like late Middle Park days again... hopefully a new generation of "Hellatzides" on the make.

Im all for cultural expression and think it has its place at our clubs, but i agree and dont think thats the way to do it either, fornus anyway, I really enjoyed our setup and the idea of differing greek food trucks and others, loved the coffee stand, ice cream truck is always a real hit it seems, more stalls at big games perhaps, but especially merch (expand the array and simple things like those damn keynrings so many ppl keep asking for finally done) bc when done correctly the internal fan atmosphere does more for the club than any external factor... i think given our demographic what could be done correctly is some junior setups on the back end penalty comp for prize (was done well at matildas once for a tournament..super successful and they charged gold coin $2 entry). All it costs the club is a prize (tee for finalists)
Great idea....

flights for Sydney booked this morning (I couldn't get anyone to commit for Broadmeadows on Sunday) ... that 4 of us definitely there..... :)

Got to give credit to the travelling Moreton fans, there seemed more of them at Lakeside than Sydney Olympic brought last week.

Pity their players decided to play the worst anti-football Ive seen in a while.

What also helps is that we have clean air. No other junior football or 30 other Greek clubs playing.

Firstly, well dont to all for the turnout again.. given the factors we should be more than happy!

Secondly, well done to the lads, its always frustrating against sides that have no intention to play (Moreton was infuriating and ref lost it allowing so many needless stoppages without punishment). Only 1 side in it though as we all witnessed and we shouldve buried the game early but again some nerves from a team still trying to gel, wrong decisions and another brain freeze moment (yes it was soft) but shouldnt have happened from Bonada, what was the thinking?. Now we change it all up heading for the NSW double and come back with the points. Saw Brdmdw today vs an atrocious Olympic and they will be very similar to Morton in style and execution.

All in all thats 2 from 2 , Aguek proved more solid at front again for me and i think we start to consider him as the starter, Uchida and Pasquali were again great, Andrews better but continues to make silly mistakes at times, perhaps we get to see another one of the signings now Bonada will miss the games.
Agreed with all... Hit the crossbar twice in the first half, if they went in it would have been a riot of goals... Moreton's play from the back was suicidal, how we didnt score was a travesty.. still for a brand new squad we seem to be gelling qucikly, Manny starts for me next week... we may be onto something with this torunament.....

100% The only thin that is going to put a fly in our soup is the Aleague followers who attended these past two weeks with their families.... They may switch back to the dark side later in the tournament.

Mind you we are yet to see Khaddour and Habibi play in this competition. With them back, that should give our bench more depth.

The fact that we had a break between the end of the home and away season and this competition may have an unintended benefit. Players look refreshed and hungry each match. Not to say that Heidelberg is not but they've played a great deal more matches. What goes in Heidelberg's favour is their fitness levels are superior to most teams given how often they train.

The two games on the road are going to be a challenge for sure... We have, however, started pretty well for a "new" squad and 2- 4 points on the road will see us keep top spot comfortably I think... The conditions yesterday would have suited Moreton a lot more than ur lads and they were cramping up all over the place and looked slow.. I think we will be fine... The game plan was always to win all 3 at home and jag at least one win away....

Heidelberg and APIA seem to be almost carbon copies of each other... certainly the favourites for this so far.... still its a fascinating set of results this round... the whole competition is shaping up to be worth while fro the neutrals I feel.

Before the game I saw the youngest person ever hold a flare in Clarendon Street. He must have been 7 years old!

My ‘North Macedonian’ work colleague, who had never been to a Lakeside match, made a couple of funny quips.

‘They start them young at Hellas I see’

‘And they try to blame Preston fan’s for crowd trouble’
Hellas from the cradle to the grave.....

Moreton was just poor. If they competed in the NPL Vic competition, they would finish in the bottom 3.
In my opinion NPL in QLD has seriously deteriorated over the last 5yrs - yes they can produce some good footballers for sure but team wise there isnt enough quality to fill more than 3 or 4 teams. Lions were the pick for many years but they finished 5pts adrift to Moreton City, Gold Coast Knights finished 5th they were once the best team in the league. Brisbane City lost 6-0 to Avondale in the cup. The league used to be decent a few years ago Olympic, Lions, Power, Knights all had good teams and excellent players some of which have made their way down to Victoria and they perform really well but hopefully one day they will bounce back again.
