Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

On a personal level, I’ve just got back from overseas, have moved into a new apartment, and am up to my ears with work.

Haven’t had time to think about soccer.

Maybe some others, when it comes to overseas trips, are also distracted from Hellas etc?

I also think that many people are using this period to take a break from the game. We just had a full season, plus many people are AFL junkies.

I suspect there will be a surge after this weekend

Surely Avondale played a full strength team

Most teams would be playing friendlies now to retain fitness and keep sharp. We did play Heidelberg last week at Olympic Village.

Encouraging to see that the team had a good win, but the score is not important. I'm hoping we have another friendly booked in.

With the Australian Cup final this weekend, it makes it difficult to find clear air to promote the Sydney Olympic match.

We have to go into overdrive next week promoting the hell out of the Sydney Olympic match.

Does anyone know how ticket sales are tracking so far?

Only update came from SM Pete which i mentioned yesterday! I agree that next week is a full.on week of promotional saturation across all forms of media if we are to be remotely successful.. im also weary as others are that some neutrals that otherwise couldve come wouldve spent the budget in the au cup final and thus not come, but we still need to focus in getring our stagnant supporters there primarily and all else is a bonus beuond that imo.

Hopefully we get the reverse outcome, those that rock up to Aus cup final have a blast and say to themselves lets come back next week.

Regarding any neutrals perhaps yes, but we also competing with bergers game on the Sunday of that week also albeit at the village Our only stake in this weeks game is the venue and the hope that it brings those neutrals back.. big ask without a presence.

Take over the loud speakers and promote the week later would be a fine marketing stunt during the cup final... lol

Bergers v marconi at 1pm on sunday will be lucky to get a thousand. Our game is definately the main drawcard.

Although i agree a neutral that has gone to see bergers play (and if they win it) will then be more likely to go there than South is my point.
I have no idea how you do this; things must be different in Melbourne and Athens. I could never go to Parkhead or CommBank stadium and watch my hated foes.

He said neutral, but Olympiv Village is a shithole so i think most will still choose South in prime time.
I actually read it " as a neutral that has gone to see Bergers play ". I am sure he also said he went to one of their cup games.

Im not a neutral mate, you need to follow that convo from the start bc im not talking about myself but clearly any neutrals in reference to the cup final, ive not or ever would hide my allegiences, ever! Hellas & Panathinaikos hold my full allegience not that i need to explain myself.

I have gone to watch the bergers as have many others, in games that dont involve South, my boys play there which ive also not hidden!

To clarify further, my biggest rival was never heidelberg, it was melb knights historically, and then by extension marconi, utd, city even olympic.

Heidelbergs biggest rival is preston.
South v bergers is the biggest greek Australian derby and nothing more than that! There is eons between south and bergers as far as status and success goes, for it to be a rivalry on our end.

If they win saturday there will be a decent crowd no? 3-4000 at least surely...
Ideally thats what they would want bc for the bergers that number is more than a success.. great news for the championship also if they pull that off, question remains who will go if they dont win and lose that momentum?

They barely got 3,000 to the Aus cup semi, i dont see Marconi being a drawcard and 1pm is shit. Ideally they should get a big turnout if they win the cup but their crowds this year have been awful overall.
