Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

The 02/03 season was a hard one.. good squad with some good players emerging and some right in the twilight.. we only missed finals by 1 point from memory! 03/04 performed slightly better and made semis that year im prettu sure.

Off the park we paid price for complacency and believing the new FA lies (along with marconi) that we were a shoe in.. everyone bought into the new picture only to be pegged back to reality suddenly thanx to lowy and co.. then it was only normal that transitioning to vic prem league would take time due to shell shock and our carcas being raided suddenly by victory.. took a while for supporters to settle into camps aswell and even those that didnt jump ship initially did so later or stopped bc the specticle at state level was an aboslute joke..

Yeah, as Ive said before, I just gave up .... Part of it was disgust, but also, to be fair, life sort of got in the way a bit.... Maybe if South was in the Aleague I would have made more of an effort to catch a game.

I got dragged back, only as recently as 12-13 years ago and now rarely miss a match....

I look forward to the first match of the year, in late summer, walking through the gates and chatting to the old rusted ons ... best day of the year I reckon...

I think thats the common reality for many of us, especislly the disgust and disillusion that came.. to be honest many just fell and stayed off or were drawn to afl, I dont even know anyone that stayed at MV after the initial shinny lustre.. my story is similar to yours except that we departed back to Greece during that final season and returned 10 years ago since then i slowly but progressively re engaged firstly with south when my oldest got old enough as member/supporters and then with bergers bc now both boys have been there last 3 years when the youngest started...
 
All 3 of us returned to the club? Interesting.

However my mate George stopped coming 2 years ago. He lives in Lilydale!

Boutsi scoring in the final minutes and celebrating while the goal was disallowed and 20 thousand fans screaming at him to get back on the pitch as Carlton were streaming forward, Bresciano miss hitting that last minute equaliser...... The flares, the flags, the joy, the Premier of Vicitoria being our #1 fan :) ....... great memories.

Another victim of esteban-ball?? Lol
Club has long had to do better to re engage with anyone that supported the club especially anyone that was still there so recently! Club has long failed in that department im afraid...

Now was the perfect chance short memberships for championship and or ofc league to re engage them and them and chances are they will return.. not all but many will i believe.

Not at $1000 bucks to sit on the balcony..... dreaming.
