Dont mind me Im just pissed we've dropped points in two easy matches...Is "ladder" a uniquely Australian/NZ term in the context of sport? We use it interchangeably with "table".
It makes sense though. Teams go up and down it like a ladder, but it's formatted as a table with columns and rows.
Not to mention we usually call it "soccer".Ladder, comp, coach all more commonly used in Aus, than table, league, and manager in other countries.
South Melbourne are definitely capable of being a top two team given their calibre compared to most of the comp but to be fair the third-string keeper has been starting between the sticks for most matchdays.I think we are top 2 for sure but our rubbish keeper makes us vulnerable.
And it IS certainly different football than what our guys are used to.. Opposition is very fast and very physical , the pitches are very very sticky, the ball barely moves and the humidity isnt typical of a Melbourne winter ....South Melbourne are definitely capable of being a top two team given their calibre compared to most of the comp but to be fair the third-string keeper has been starting between the sticks for most matchdays.
Really good opportunity to be scouting for opportunities post OFC from these teams... bound to be some players that will become available come transfer window.. outaode the NPL have to keep half an eye on the championship defence as everyone this time around will be in it to win it!And it IS certainly different football than what our guys are used to.. Still thinl weve been a little shell shocked and rxpected this to be alot simpler.. the reality is starting to shine through...If nothing else, it is totally worthwhile to participate just for these factor alone the team will gain great insight into challenging scenarios... can only make us stronger.
Hahaha I feel sorry for our Pacific island neighbours... they see "Home of the Matildas" and Olympic Village" on the fixture list and then when they watch the matches ...
THATS what this tournament is about for us.. Sure the 450K will be great for our coffers but its a brand awareness excersise for us...
