I'd love to see some of the NSL best XIs from LFC, Mono, the guys that watched a lot of it.

mate - lets put into perspective were talking back on hard football times, lack of everything - semi pro but these fellas stood like giants as I've mentioned before re making '74 cup imo......I was a mid teen then.
I still consider it a bigger feat than 06 in qualifying on a beer budget.......
Doug Utjesenovic, Peter Wilson, Manfred Schaefer, Col Curran, < backs

Ray Richards John Warren, Jim Rooney, Jim Mackay, < mids

Adrian Alston, Peter Ollerton, Branko Buljevic Atti Abonyi < forwards

All the above were part of the '74 campaign - Curran could use both feet, we never thought what a wingback was back then but there he was - knocked back Busbys offer to play for United came back home.
Schaefer, what a friggin beast of a CB and mainstayer for years - a face in anger only his mum could luv, not many could say defended brilliantly against Pele a game here and contesting Muller at the Cup admireably.
Doug - a complete RB defensively and offensively - class.
Richards I used to marvel at his strength, built like a brick shithouse - great at covering reading the game and talking set piece long throws of today, he had a long throw ! Alston was his target and created alot of chances.
Rooney/Mackay just complimented each other and the team, impressive part timers.
Alston - great touch and front target man, claims did Cryuff turns before the man and that he did they have coverage to prove it.
Abonyi, attacker plus and his scoring stats says it all.
Baartzi ! another one to gain a United contract @ just 17yrs, signed for 2yrs, comparo to HK you could say. Brilliant player.
Use of both feet and a killer shot - his goal avg to club games is epic.

The above is just a smidge of the times, I haven't even got to Warren and other notable servers of the Roo shirt.
Another time - hopefully someone like pjennings and Middy join this thread sooner or later for I'm no details type.

All those names feel super familiar having read Shielas, Wogs and P**fters. Tbh I thought they were a little bit pre NSL. Very curious about later years too.

Yes true but they laid the path thought it right to start off with.
Unlike the selfish Greek haha I’m just looking to cover who ended up as Roos as the bar for all came from the local clubs naturally.
