NPLW season 2026 thread

Surely the Melbourne City team isn’t a reserve side, it’s more like an under 20 academy team.
Melbourne City also had first team players like Bryleeh Henry and Caitlin Karic who don't necessarily meet the under-20 age band under contract in their NPLW side this past season though.

They may be under contract but I doubt they would have played much. They are being absolutely annihilated, second from bottom with a goal difference of minus 54.

Both Bryleeh Henry and Caitlin Karic are now out of contract though given that it's the offseason with the former headed overseas and the latter at Keilor Park, but Melbourne City's NPLW side are definitely in danger of getting relegated this year unless things change and results start to go their way as they're nine points from safety with eight matchdays left in the season.

Obviously the football management aren’t looking at this squad for the replacement of ALW players moving on.
Maybe there are one or two that will move up but it doesn’t seem like much planning has gone in to it.
The Mariners are in a similar situation, they have teams who are bottom of the NSW womens league one in both first grade and under 23’s so it’s doubtful that any of these players will graduate to the ALW.
In saying that though Annelisse Rasmussen came through the Mariners ranks so maybe the odd one or two will make it.

Usually the good ones (like Anna Razz) get taken pretty quickly. It’s not abnormal for academy teams to have periods where they suck. Häcken II are bottom of the Elitettan at the moment and have lost all 10 games they’ve played. They lost players like Faith Chinzimu (a Malawian wonderkid) to the first team, for example.

Is it still just two teams that go down in Women's NPL Vic, or was it expanded to 3 like the mens when they went from 12 to 14 teams this season? Can't find it online

Sofascore says only two. It’s pretty much already decided though. Melbourne City U20 have seven points with a game in hand (19 played) and Bentleigh Greens have four (20 played). Bentleigh could be relegated tomorrow arvo.

Bentleigh Greens have only won the one game this season against Boroondara Eagles at the start of June though and are on course for relegation despite bringing in the likes of Kiera Meyers, Julia Sardo and Melissa Barbieri between the sticks to bolster their playing list.
