What happened

Flares and fireworks against Rockdale.

The Serbs (Ex. Avala Boys) were there to support Olympic with their Greek friends, cops got called to stop any trouble from happening.

I don't consider Floriniotes the same as Greeks (doesn't look like Heidelberg does either) but you do you megale.

FNSW called the cops they were in attendance buddy if you enter a game with 3 flares and lightning fire crackers and bungers what do you expect?

You would also know that all Rockdale fans and officials congratulated the players for their win and then left the ground together maybe 5 mins after full time

Tbh Npl 2 might actually be an interesting little league if Bonnyrigg or Fraser get promoted back up, Bankstown stay where they are, Olympic go down etc maybe even Hakoah to move into their new home in the next couple of years

Yes and no. Its very complex up there. The founders of both Heidelberg and Preston were literally from the same villages. A lot of floriniotes in Melbourne dont speak Greek at home (by choice). I dont question Heidelbergs Greekness, granted the club probably tries a bit too hard these days. I know more than a few Heidelberg supporters who have told me they have relatives that support Preston. I cant for the life of me work this out.

I simply dont understand if the hatred today is really worth it from both sides.

A lot of the immigrant heidelberg old schoolers have passed away. They are incredibly mixed now so i dont understand why it has to be a big deal, we've probably got more supporters than them from up North.

The complexity comes in from the paparies that preston come up with. They weren't from the same villages.
Reality is the bergers were originally the clifton hill soccer team of the social club. Preston was founded by Scops when they were part of Yugoslavia, just after Josep Tito changed vardar to People's Socialist "Macedonia" to try incorporate northern Greece (macedonia and thrace) into Yugoslavia.

When more Greeks came from Greece they joined the clifton hill social club. Most of them spoke both Greek and Bulgarian (slavoentopika) and when they eventually became a fully functioning sports club they registered as Megas Alexandros Melvourni (Alexander The Great - Melbourne) as a middle finger to the Yugoslav bulgarianscops at Preston who were using the Greek name Makedonia.
At some point a few swingers (greeks who's families were unfortunately screwed by the sociocommunists of the time). started causing issues so the berger board basically told them we're a Greek club not yugoslav or bulgarian so kops'tis malakeis pretty much and the but hurt confused ones went to Preston. Even some of our older south fans can speak both as well.
South and Heidelberg have a lot of family ties, families where some are south and some are bergers....and some are confused preston, who i might add will jump up and down about the whole thing but still willingly go to a Greek church for easter and christmas

Prestons old nsl team doctor was a regular at a northern suburbs Greek church. Smartest bloke around, had the Greeks convinced he was Greek, had the Preston ppl convinced otherwise, had both communities tied up. Pulled the old Peter Daicos succesfully for decades. Strangely his Greek surname was one you'd expect someone from Kalamata or Sparti to have.
