NPL 2026

That would be awesome. Would this be swapped for the Championship? Otherwise it's A-League, Championship, and OPL, straight after NPL haha. Winds of change in the air.

South would pull out of both the ofc pro and championship i'd imagine.

The ofc pro league was all about professionalising the club. Wont be any need for it if the club was in the top flight.

As for the championship, the club wouldnt belong there.

I doubt we would play in the championship
I reckon we would do the same thing as Auckland
Play A league seniors
OPL 23s mix in with npl level players
Npl youth squad

Hahaha Ah re Demosthenes... what do we true Greeks care about that LGBTQ+ Barbarian who died of AIDS in Iran... let the Slavs fight over his debauchery..

Like Demosthenes once said:

"not only no Greek, nor related to the Greeks, but not even a barbarian from any place that can be named with honours,"
True Greeks? Έλληνας, εσυ δεν είσαι 🤣 Alexander didn't die of aids and he died in Babylon (modern Iraq not Iran) after fathering 2 sons you τουρκόσπορο.
No wonder the σκοπιανοί call us Turks or Albanians with μαλάκες like you.

Leave south melb as a member because you're a ξεφτίλα as both a "Greek" and a south melbourne Hellas member with your lack of knowledge.

"In 4th-century Athens, orators constantly called political rivals "barbarians" regardless of their actual origins. Demosthenes even used this term to insult his fellow Athenians as well as other Greeks"

This would be the case because if South Melbourne get promoted to the A-Leagues then our reserve team would be ineligible for the Australian Championship but at the same time it would have to lead to a change in the competition format as we qualify anyway as one of the foundation sides.

Next season (in 5 months time) would be a certainty. Probably one of the main reasons the apl contacted the club. Must be desperate to end the WU saga.

Not sure if it stacks up financially, what would we be paying for the license? Would we get a share of the A league tv rights deal that was just signed?

Our matchday costs would be small relative to the rest.
Auckland got 11 months between being awarded the licence & their first game.

I know there's the worry that if SMFC go to A-League that pro/rel and everyone else below will be forgotten. But I think this might be the opposite, and SMFC will be the "proof of concept" that these clubs can step up (again) to the top tier. And if they succeed there (which I think they almost certainly will) then SMFC will be the key to opening up A-League for more of the NPL clubs to join, with pro/rel the ultimate goal.

I wonder if Kugeler has his fingerprints on this. He seems very down to earth and in touch with us common folk 😄 and what we're after. Maybe he's told the big boss Infantino about his goals to join "old and new football"... the timing of it all is quite immediate into his tenure.

Also with trying to avoid the bye, maybe Canberra is close to a green light as well?

Exciting days.

APL are looking to make a decision regarding who gets the Canberra A-League licence within a month which would secure Canberra United's future and allow for expansion of the A-League Men preferably for next season but most likely for season 2027-28.

Actually might be season after then if 5 months might be to short
I reckon they'll easily be fine, South are up and running already! Just a couple of signings at the top and you're there. Wanderers were built from absolutely nothing in 6 months.

In addition to making the new signings should South Melbourne make it into the A-Leagues there inevitably needs to be cullings of players who aren't of the necessary calibre also.

I follow Peppas but for some reason he's blocked me! Really weird. I don't post anything, just follow for news and stats etc.

Anyway, I wonder if South would dive into starting A-League this October? Or would they wait another season? I need some time to listen to the pod haha!!
Swap Macathur for Marconi while you’re at it. In all seriousness though, the problem being this would amount to a “legal settlement” with your competitors and do nothing to address the broader structural issues within the game. But as you say it would be some form of proof of concept that it is hypnotically possible, probably a bit late in the day for “peace talks” though

Might be easier to have Sydney United take over Macarthur because of the shared owner. Give Marconi a license too.

Unlikely the fa would go for that imo, they clearly have an uneasy relationship with Sydney united, I also doubt united would be keen. Could easily make a case for Wollongong wolves too imo, should have been them to begin with. Personal bias aside I say Hellas and Marconi because they’re the two most successful traditional clubs, and probably the most financially stable with the most suitable facilities and would be the lowest hanging fruit re “building bridges”, relatively low risk etc but again, none of this would do anything to address the structural issues, would likely amount to the APL trying to “do a deal” with old soccer. Personally I’d want all of the traditional clubs to be able to get in if they so desired and were able. All of these are hypotheticals anyway coz I doubt it’ll happen

A Faustian bargain with the broke chumps from the APL and the dodgy FA? Lawyer up.

Assuming their fans will leave the club in droves if it becomes part of a franchise right?

Don’t even understand why they would do it whilst that league is desperate and put an olive branch out.
