NPL 2026

Something I’d be interested to know, why was Sydney united for example able to maintain a decent enough grass pitch playing surface in the 90s during the nsl era but aren’t able to now. Is it just a matter of the cash flow not being there to put into the maintenance post nsl
Maybe because juniors played in winter and seniors in summer?

Most/many pro “synthetic” pitches are hybrid these days, a mix of artificial turf and real grass. Don’t have any stats, but don’t think we do that at all in Aus?

HoM is a synthetic weave pitch, holds up pretty well but didn't shed water last month when it was needed. ... I believe Lakeside AND Olympic Village also have some level of synthetic weave - not sure what percentage vs natural grass though.

Running Costs and traffic on the pitch.

Gilligan (RIP) who did our ground in the 90s, was full time employee of the club and we never let the juniors or youth train on the pitch as we do now, plus academies.

By 2010 the running costs of the grass pitch was around $80-$100k a season, the dugout was the issue, as it never received sunlight so it got muddy real quick and didnt last half a season. Idiot ethnics built the grandstand the wrong side lol.

So synthetic was a financial investment.

Always wondered what the origin of the name “gilligans island” or whatever the canteen/bar at edensor is called

Gilligans bar is a tribute to our Groundskeeper who was around for decades, absolute legend
Thought there must have been a story like that behind it, can’t possibly have just been that someone at the club loved the 60s sitcom as much as my father does

Does anyone know where to get the scores and tables for the NT leagues? I can only find the Norzone on Sofascore, but I'm looking for the official links, including Alice Springs.

Norzone started last week and they still haven't published their table on GameDay which they used last year. Good to see Palmerston return to the top league!

Good question - I can't find either - although some clubs (like Darwin Olympic) have got results on their page (0-0 v Casuarina)
