NPL 2026

Major review for Football SA just completed. Some light reading before bed:

And FSA's response:

Interesting that one recommendation is to bring back the salary cap!

• FSA should introduce a salary cap across NPL and State League competitions to
protect clubs’ financial sustainability and spread talent more evenly across the
competition, enhancing competitive balance.
• This will help to address the wealthier clubs overspending on player payments
and dominating the competitions, while smaller clubs stretch their budgets and
resources to keep up, leading to financial challenges and a reduction in
expenditure in other areas such as coaching and youth development.
• Introducing a salary cap encourages clubs to invest in youth development and
other growth initiatives.

Have they suggested kicking out Northern Demons?

Some player and staff responses from the FSA review:

45% of SAASL (amateurs) believe they’re being held back without promotion to FSA.
73% of CSL (amateurs) don’t think there’s a pathway to higher levels.
57% of all respondents agree that the separated associations should combine.
77% of FSA agree with expansion of their leagues and promotion/relegation.
60% would support pro/rel across the associations.
60% disagree that the three association model is advantageous for their club.

Need to score goals to win games. Think they’ll have trouble scoring goals. Won’t leak too many but I see them struggling to get results if they go 1-0 down in games.
Bentleigh Greens have only scored twice this season, both coming in their 2-0 NPL Victoria win over Avondale which is their only win so far, and they've now lost back-to-back games by a 1-0 scoreline, last week against Hume City on the road and again this week against South Melbourne at Home of the Matildas.
