Messi

My unpopular opinion is that I'm not a fan of either Messi or Ronaldo. Messi winning Ballon D'or in 2022 was a massive joke. I respect their talent, but don't like the way it's made out that they are the only good players. So many players did not get the accolades they deserved because of the obsession with these two.
 
I never really saw Messi play to be honest I never watched LA Liga to much. Obviously seem hightlights
 
Yes I agree re ballon dor - it’s voting is a joke and has been for years….be it 22 or countless others.
Also 9 times of 10 winner is a forward.
A forward is only as good due to top midfielders and backs.
Though Messi has been a brilliant talent full stop - in Liga CL and the last WC was icing on the cake that imo backs the GOAT modern times.
A unselfish player and low key humble human nothing can deny his status.

These two have not only immeasurable talent but their longevity at the top of the game was or probably still is insane.

For example Maradona was probably better than Messi but maybe the best player in the world for only for 5 years. Messi had been there for more than a decade!

I agree to an extent with you.. I dont know if it was massive joke or not re-voting for Ballon, but players like Zizou and Henri (two of dozens of examples) should be in the same conversation as Ronnie and Leo and I feel their influence is reduced because of the whole hype of the Barca v Real , Nike v Adidas marketing push.
 
Mentioning Henri and not winning is puzzling tbh - especially when the French scribes are heavily involved in the award you'd think he'd have the back room stacked deck.

Well I'm sure there are blips but it sure is unfair to players who had stellar Club seasons.
Zidane arrived at RM the season RM won actually, not sure if he was key player from the get go to far back to recall.

This is correct, Messi & Ronaldo have longevity to good with their God blessed talent. I think Ronaldo just got his 950th goal, that's just like FUCK!!!.
Both these players year after year showed they were the best, did they deserve every ballon dor they got, maybe not, but they were amongst the top 2-3 players in the world every year for over a decade & even now well past their prime, they are performing.
Yes, Maradona's 1986 World cup is legendary, probably the greatest individual performance of all time & he did very well in Napoli, but he was a druggie. Pele never played in Europe & I was too young to see play at his best, though I did see play live with Santos in the 1970s.

Messi & Ronaldo did it year after year against the very best for nearly 20 years.
