I thought that I would start a thread to discuss the next generation of Matildas.
I have discussed this in other threads but I think it deserves its own thread.
The current under 20 Asian Cup games should give an indication of who is and who is not a future Matildas.
For me the standouts are Halmarick and Trimis but others may have a different opinion.
LETS DISCUSS, 👍😳

Skye Halmarick will definitely be promoted from the Matildas farm system into the senior national team setup and is eventually going to replace Sam Kerr as striker in the Tillies playing list going forward.

That’s a bold statement so I will reserve my judgement.

Looking at how well our U20s are going plus Aussies doing well overseas I think it’s safe to say well remain a pretty good side that contends for the Asian Cup, perhaps a dark horse at the Olympics and going up to the quarters or in a good year the semis of the World Cup. We’ve got a lot of really good defenders, midfielders and wingers coming through and we’ve got a couple of good strikers too (though I doubt we’ll get another one of Sam Kerr’s calibre unfortunately). Goalies are the position I’m most worried about, some of the goalkeeping in the Dub isn’t great though a couple of them are good.

I’d be interested to see how some of the Aussie girls at college will go in their careers too. There’s a website and Insta page called College Matildas about potential future Tillies playing in the American college system (the NCAA). Our unis don’t have a structured sporting league like America, Japan or Korea but a couple do go over and pursue careers over there whilst also getting an education (though being an international student in 2026 is quite costly). Amy Sayer went to Stanford after her 99.95 ATAR (one of the highest in NSW, virtually perfect) and Teagan Micah went to UCLA for example before becoming key players for the Matildas.

One thing our coaches need to learn is women’s football is now multicultural. Men’s football always was and the Socceroos have always been diverse but the Matildas and women’s soccer are also becoming diverse. Dual internationals should be managed very very wisely and carefully.

Overall the future is bright!

The Matildas are perfectly capable of making the Women's World Cup final or even going all the way given the potential of many of the Young Matildas players who are inevitably going to be promoted from the farm system into the senior Tillies playing list in the future, in addition to contending for the Women's Asian Cup and medals at the Olympics.
