Matildas friendlies in June 2026

cricket it’s still there and I say it’s more on hold, not stopped.”
That was what I read. Ellyse Perry was able to juggle both sports even at international level for several years. Perhaps Ilona can too.
Hopefully Ilona Melegh commits to football though because she has heaps of potential and is definitely going to start between the sticks for the Matildas in the future.

Is it fair to say that Sam Kerr is no longer the player she was after he long lay off?
It's definitely safe to say that Sam Kerr hasn't been the same since making her return from injury and heading into future major tournament cycles we should start to think about replacing her altogether with either Holly McNamara or Skye Halmarick.

100%. Still a great player but she’s not world-class anymore and it makes sense that Chelsea are moving on.
Sam Kerr has started to regress after missing the entirety of season 2024-25 and a large chunk of this past season rehabbing her ACL so I'm not surprised that she's no longer of the calibre she used to be.

I think you guys are premature judging her @ 32yrs.
She played 24 odd chelsea games post ACL 10goals couple of assists, broke the record.
Mind you I think its "mentally" is she there 110% like in the past.
There is NO one as capable as her up front for the floundering Tillies period even now.
The trouble is she doesn't get enough ball in the danger zones to finish - she maybe thinking I'm really getting frustrated I might be getting over this for I know I would as a player.

Skye Halmarick has shown she has the potential to eventually replace Sam Kerr heading into future major tournament cycles whilst playing for the Young Matildas during our recent under-20 Women's Asian Cup campaign though.

The only reason why Sam Kerr is not getting enough of the ball in the danger zones to be able to finish is because the Matildas are not being clinical enough to capitalise on chances created by the midfield and convert them into shots at goal.

I’m not denying that she’s still class but I don’t think she’s the same anymore. Chelsea moved on cause they’ve got Aggie Beever-Jones now. They also wanted to buy Bunny Shaw but she’s staying at City now.

yes potential - doing it is the thing, chicken before the egg. Lets see what prevails after many games not just a few in the Snr NT ranks.

no shit - pardon the pun, rule #101, that’s football forever its been played.

To be fair I think Skye’s a great player but she’s still a long way from making the squad. She’s only 18 and only played 14 games for Sydney FC last season. If she can get consistent minutes at club level I’d consider calling her up for a friendly but if she’s not starting for the worst Sydney team ever then she shouldn’t be near the Tillies yet.

At the moment I’d say Holly or Razz are the next strikers. We’ve got a few others in the mix (Sharn for example when she’s not injured) but those two clearly stick out. They should be on the plane to Brazil in June next year.

after 6yrs at Chelsea and @32yrs are we not surprised a club looking ahead.
Wouldn't you as Club owners or gaffa - it was time - next 10yrs what you got to plan for.

Holly McNamara definitely and Annalise Rasmussen if she can get consistent game time at Juventus next season but we wouldn't expect Skye Halmarick to break into the Matildas at senior level until January 2028 at the earliest.

yep that it did having good lawyers, she should have got charged imo.
Her charges were dropped. Being sent to jail (the maximum punishment for the charges in the UK) for calling someone names is very harsh. I’d think even the worst lawyer would get her out of that. Should’ve just been a fine and people move on with their lives, why waste taxpayer money on this?

Anyway, why do people still bring this up? The incident was in 2023. People don’t bring up Kylian Mbappé’s 2024 case anymore and he was accused of rape, a far more serious accusation than any name-calling. The case was dropped and no one calls him a rapist today (because the court said he wasn’t).

Chelsea’s biggest aim is to win the Champions League, something they’ve never done despite having such a great squad and dominating English football for so many years. A 32-year-old striker usually isn’t what they’re looking for. They did the same with Beth England and Fran Kirby, Chelsea legends who then became legends at other clubs (Spurs and Brighton, respectively).

It looks like Sammy will be moving to the NWSL rather than to another WSL club. She’s been there before but I think Boston Legacy (a new team) are the team she’ll be moving to given the rumours plus the logic that her wife is from Massachusetts.

I didn't bring it up - replied to Richie's question.
Yer I agree she should have been fined when saying charged.
Done over it.
