Matilda's abroad

Tori Tumeth starts for Vancouver Rise as captain in their Northern Super League game against Calgary Wild. Kahli Johnson on the bench for Calgary Wild, who still have Kory Babington as acting head coach in the absence of Leah Blayney.
Tumeth red carded in the 83rd minute whilst Johnson was came on in the 41st minute for Calgary in their 3-2 win over Vancouver.

That’s Calgary’s first win this season. Took them 14 games and for one of the best players in the second-worst team to get sent off lol.

If Kahli Johnson isn’t starting for by far the worst NSL team then I can’t see how she can make the Matildas squad. The Wild would be midtable if not wooden spoon contenders (alongside Wanderers) in the Dub.

I think you’re reading far too much into it.

Emily Gielnik came on in the 60th minute for Pumas UNAM in their 2-1 Liga Femenil Apertura win over Necaxa, scoring the match-winning goal in the 90th minute.

Kahli Johnson should still be in contention to make the Matildas playing list though given her goalscoring form at international level and the fact that she already has major tournament experience despite not getting consistent game time at club level.

Tori Tumeth will be missing Vancouver Rise's match against Halifax Tides next week at least through suspension but could also be given multiple matches.

Her performance at club level would be taken into account but the overall performance of her team should have no bearing on international selection.

Overall team performance in a league already has no bearing on international selection though as Emily van Egmond is still earning Matildas caps even after getting relegated at the end of this past season.

Hana Lowry started and played 80 minutes for Valerenga in their 2-0 UWCL second qualifying round third place playoff win over Omonia before being subbed off. No game time for Tijan McKenna, who was not in the matchday squad altogether for Valerenga.
