Matilda's abroad

Sam Kerr starts for Chelsea in their Women's League Cup quarterfinal game against Liverpool. Ellie Carpenter not in the matchday squad altogether for Chelsea.

Clare Hunt starts for an unchanged Spurs side in their Women's League Cup quarterfinal game against Manchester United. Charli Grant still out with injury and not in the matchday squad altogether for Spurs.

Kyra Cooney-Cross with an assist on the first goal of the game in the 20th minute for Arsenal in their Women's League Cup quarterfinal against Crystal Palace, which they currently lead 1-0 in the first half.

Sam Kerr started and played 57 minutes for Chelsea in their 9-1 Women's League Cup quarterfinal win over Liverpool before being subbed off, scoring a brace with the first two goals of the game in the 14th and 17th minute.

Courtney Newbon's been quite good at Melbourne Victory, I wonder if she'll secure a move overseas or get a Matildas call-up for a friendly as a backup keeper.

Given the current Matildas selection policy I doubt Courtney Newbon will get a callup any time soon unfortunately, but she may well get a move overseas along with Holly McNamara and possibly Shelby McMahon or Alana Jancevski.

Not to be too Melbourne- centric there are quite a number of ALW players who should (will) get overseas moves.
I think Montemurro will need to rebuild the Matildas squad to a large degree after the Asian Cup.

No game time for Emily Gielnik, who was not in the matchday squad altogether for Monterrey in their 4-0 Liga MX Femenil Clausura opening day win over Puebla.

Only three matches tonight with most of Europe still on their winter break, though there's more to come tomorrow night.

Lyon's match against Saint-Étienne is actually a derby, though in the women's game Lyon heavily dominate and have never lost to Saint-Étienne. The Arsenal vs Man United match will be interesting, hopefully it ends in a draw since that would mean Tottenham go up to third if we beat Leicester.

Kyra Cooney-Cross will not feature for the Gunners this week due to her mother's devastating diagnosis with stage four cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), a rare, aggressive incurable cancer. A GoFundMe has been set up to help.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help.
Link to the GoFundMe page is available here. Please consider donating if you're able to and share the link with others, in addition to keeping Kyra Cooney-Cross in your thoughts and prayers; we as an Australian football community will be showing love to her as she navigates what is undoubtedly a trying time for her and her family.

Thanks for sharing. I wanted to post it on Reddit too but I already posted and just wanna avoid being called a spammer.

I've asked a mod if they can do a pinned post.

Steph Catley started and played 89 minutes for Arsenal in their scoreless WSL draw against 10-player Manchester United before being subbed off. Caitlin Foord came on in the 63rd minute.

Teagan Micah on the bench for Lyon's 6–0 Coupe de France derby win over Saint-Étienne. Kyah Simon was initially on the bench for Dijon in their 4–1 win over Toulouse but she possibly might've come on, I'm not sure though since there's like no info about subs online.

Charli Grant is unfortunately still out injured and won't feature for Tottenham. No German games for another two weeks, but Swedish club friendlies kick off next week. The Serie A Femminile returns next week too however the Supercoppa Italiana Femminile is tonight for the first competitive Italian women's football match of the year!

Match of the week has to be the Supercoppa. Will be up watching that!
