Green & Gold FC podcast

Just heard Everybody Wants Us Off podcast.

Some good interviewing work from Grazor.

Also, interesting hearing the Marconi perspective in getting to the final and a bit about their club history.

Managed to follow up with the podcast on Australia’s injury woes.

Didn’t think it would be interesting, but guest Adam Fields is one of the most interesting panellists we’ve had. I certainly learned a lot!

From Adam delineating his playing career it appears England has 10 divisions of football with promo/releg in all 10.

Offline I’ve weight trained for 53 years. I’ve never really seen WTing as an integral part of football development, but after hearing sports scientist Adam , I think it appears to be essential. Didn’t know our players are breaking down so soon after arriving in Europe?

England has pro rel 20 divisions down incredibly!

So another 10 divisions lower than the 10 Adam mentioned?

I have a different view of English football milieu than many Aussies. Because of the inculcation I had with top KNVB and Dutch coaches, they really looked down their noses at English football. Essentially, they thought it was a huge joke - shared elsewhere in France, Spain, Germany and Italy.

That is, with the notable exception of the EPL. They took it seriously because it has also been so rich.

They thought the Championship was a joke 10 -15 years ago, labelling it a hoofball, high ball, second ball league full of useless, poorly trained and untrained English coaches!

Anyway England having 20 divisions with promo/releg is a fantastic model!

the 20 divisions of pro/rel is probably why they stayed elite (but didn't win anything) despite having an ugly hoofball philosophy for 30 years. If you go down to league 2 it is still hoofball, but a few years ago league 1 was, and a few years before championship was

gradually it is becoming a lot more deck football from the top down

There seems to be a current set piece and long ball meta in the EPL atm The difference is, the players doing it have very high technical skills

After I saw Wrexham play A L teams, I could not believe it. 10 years ago virtually no Championship teams played with the tactical sophistication of current Wrexham.

It was the nuances of their off the ball tactics in BPO, plus big strong physical players having good technique and game sense. In the past Champ teams were full of big strong lads, playing fightball and hoofball.

England inevitably will become even more of an international powerhouse with such a vastly improved second tier. If more L1 teams play like Wrexham, then England is a far better destination for Aussies than it was. The UEFA Continental coaches have chased English cash, and brought sound coaching practices with them.

one tricky thing about england for aussies is their standards for athleticism is higher than the contintent and their season is longer.

We are already athletically a bit remedial when going to belgium or eredivisie with a few exceptions, but the gap is manageable. Its been really tough in england except for our most athletic players

latest episode I wanted to find what all the fuss was about with the national curriculum. I learnt a lot, thanks to the guests!

I wrote my own thoughts on the national curriculum in a fan view - I think we should design a system where clubs have a pathway to develop and teach their own courses

Man I love intelligent conversations about the game. Great guests mate.

took you a while to come around, but you finally discovered the truth :P

There was a bit edited out there.

Thankfully, some waffle I made disappeared I made in response to Grazor's wife being an American trained teacher, which was quite prescriptive, compared to Aus and Kiwi teachers being used to utilise resources and being equipped to teach heuristically.

Another bit that was edited, was I compiled a response about how the FFA NC, was predicated around the Game Analysis Proforma of matches played.

This was:

*To identify the football problems occurring in the game by?
Where?
When?
Who?
What?
Why?
How?

*The four man moments of the game. Ball Possession, Defensive Transition, Ball Possession Opposition, Attacking Transition.

*The three stage and four stage training ground practices that ensue to rectify the football problems identified in the game analysis proforma.

I understand that a lot of this is highly technical , cerebral, complex, jargonistic, but is now an important component of the highly advanced coaching that Aus coaches now have access to. Prior to 2007 they had quite simplistic coach education.

* I think I also set out the newer Aus coaching pathways:
-Community Coaching Pathway
Grassroots Certificate.
Junior Certificate
Youth Certificate
Senior Licence

-Advanced Coaching Pathway
C Licence
B Licence
A Licence
Pro Licence

Actually good editing.

At the time, it seemed like Grazor's questions from naysayers of the NC, seemed like a small portion of the Podcast.

Whoever, devised the questions, whether it was just Grazor, or whomever else was involved, they were very good.

It was a pleasure meeting Danny - and - seeing Grazor again, live, after not seeing him for 12 years in person!

I'm worried about the last sentence, because we would have an ad hoc curriculum like Aus prior to 2005.

If it were to occur, it would need to occur under fairly strict guidelines - because one doesn't know the level of prior learning about football, and understanding of it, that some stakeholders in clubs have who would be devising the methodology.

yeah so you would have to have an accreditation system where a club was deemed good enough at education to be an educator and develop their own methodology, similar to university physics education. Alternative a simpler system would be to rely on market competition to drive quality up and have an fa course as a back up course which provides a minimum standard that clubs have to compete with to be better. This would be similar to healthcare

I expand on these options in the fanview and why some of the problems of implementation look systemic to me
