Green & Gold FC podcast

Fans know the game, and also have "gut feelings", and are just as entitled to criticize a top coach as any so called highly qualified expert!
An online forum is just that - a place for anyone to advance their opinions. It is just an opinion - nothing more. And others' opinions should be respected, even if one disagrees with some others on some issues.

I think it may be pertinent for some fans to recognise that they may not have the training, knowledge and insights of a pro coach though. In this case Popa.

I've said it before but we've had a large number of fans in Aus, highly critical of every national team coach we've had since Guus. We are one of only 11 teams in world football to qualify for 6 WCs in succession. This is a pretty incredible achievement for a country where football struggles for media coverage.

A good mate of mine has travelled in Germany a lot. He consistently finds Germans are simply astonished at how successful Aus has been as a football nation, given the relatively small population and low profile of football.

Grazor, I'm at the 8 min mark of the new Podcast, Socceroo selections for the Ashes, this time gardening ( note LFC - ha ha, not ironing), and want you to clarify a point.

You have access to some stats in the Championship. It has the levels of of touches a player receives in games. From stats I've compiled the players who touch the ball most are usually DMs.

One can add CBs and FBs, if the opposition are playing Half Presses, or sitting deep in Partial Presses.

Central strikers tend to touch the ball least.

Does this correlate with your data when Aussies are playing?

That was a short podcast! Thanks Grazor and Alex! Appreciate all your time and effort lads. Yet another quality podcast!

Must admit, given there is so little media in Aus, I barely know anything about the Oceanian League that South Melb have entered? Any concise info about it, much appreciated.

Will the season be our Aus winter or summer season? If winter, it gives us year round Aus football.

Congrats to all South Melb fans!

Good point from Alex that more football is a greater op for Aus clubs. I'd love South Melb to play a few games in Tas. Will those games be televised on Paramount?

I'm now a South Melb supporter for the Oceanian comp. Pleasingly, we have heaps of South M fans who post on Green and G.

From what I've seen in the Cup, South M needs to improve quite a lot in Ball Possession. Although better in Ball Possession Opposition, SM can still improve to condense space effectively for more sustained periods at the level they do at their best.

yes, though the stats for percentiles adjust for what position they play in

touches per 90 usually crash quite a bit for aussies going to europe for around the first 2 years they are there. The crash depends on the level of the league, irankunda dropped a bit going to switzerland and a bit more going to the championship. Usually players recover though once they get used to the smaller time and space

It will start in January and we will do a preview. There are 2 NZ clubs, South Melbourne and 5 oceania clubs. From Suncoast fire we know that the costs to clubs are 2 million a year AUD

At the moment the league goes for a minimum of 17 matches for each club. I'll be going for them like I go for Asian clubs in acl/acl2

we will do a preview of ofc just like the afc leagues (though we have a stacked month coming up! Hope we squeeze it all in!)

Very interesting info, Grazor.

Thanks.

Excellent news!

I’m also really pleased for South Melb. The earlier podcast from the 2 SM guests shed a lot of light on ethnic clubs being repudiated by Football Aus. I’m sure their crowd nos will increase again. I thought there was an outside chance they could replace Western U?

I’ll be joining the Hellas chant too.

Very sad Western U’s demise after developing so much youth - and - being successful on the pitch.

yeah hope those youth find a new home

will be thrilled if the crowds return to lakeside

Yes as you all said the back 5 were good selections.Yazbek and Teague were swamped by the Kiwis and couldn' t get control of the game.O'Neill when he came on put himself about and was more disruptive.Hrustic made Silvera look inadequate but part of that problem as I mentioned in the Soccer Ashes thread was that while we concentrated our attack down the left side as Bos was so incisive Silvera was left in acrers of space on the other side of the field but we couldn't switch our attack. Also Hrustic was often too far away from him, often drifting into the middle of the pitch and not dropping back to cover when Silvera went forward or eeven taking up the indide position so that Silvera could overlap. It was better when Miller came on especilly when Milanovic replaced Hrustic.Toure's speed and robustness was good to see.
Boyle as an out and out striker invoked shades of Scott Mcdonald-a small man by himself against tall CBs.He worked hard and pressed hard but often alone though Metcalfe tried to get up there while Hrustic was in no man's land which might be OK when we have the ball but is useless when applying the press.

I was exciting to see Toure,Irankunda,Milanovic and Balard introduced.Balard needs to be given longer minutes, hopefully starting with AON, to see how he will handle the good Kiwi press. Will look forward to Segecic,Botic and Kalik getting minutes in the return.

This is responding to the Podcast with Will as guest analysing the Cup games.

One thing to remember is that AL teams will be flogging their guts out on the training track. They will have heavy legs. AL clubs in training ground practice are planning to taper for the start of the AL season home and away proper. ATM they will have heavy legs for games.

Jets will be closer to the taper towards the start of the AL season if the Cup Final is played in early October against Heidelberg.

It would be good to evaluate the quality of AL clubs v NPL clubs - if - they played the same season. Not if one league is in peak season and the other is pre-season.

I'm enjoying this podcast immensely, with Will as guest and the regulars, Grazor and Alex.

Good work, guys!

Also, if you are viewing this, LFC, I'm listening to the Podcast in the garden - not doing the ironing! Ha ha!
