so bring on the AFC Nations LeagueThing is - for FIFA to recognise it, it needs to be in an international window, and against a team FIFA recognises so it can be a ‘full international’

Good idea.Ours should be the same with the same base of support and contact prior. We need to be more strategic early on qualifying. I wonder if we could also manage our own invitational tournaments and get them recognised by our confederation for capping purposes. More opportunities to look at and play our depth.
I'd like a few more domestic AL based Socceroo fixtures. Mix up a few experienced Roos with young players.australia a games at home and away
If we dont mind being outnumbered in the stadium, al games v indonesia might pay for themselves if the crowds are bigI'd like a few more domestic AL based Socceroo fixtures. Mix up a few experienced Roos with young players.
All of closer neighbours Kiwis, Indo, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, have improved immeasurably as viable opponents.
he just edited it i think
try this
man this is annoying hahastill no
I think weather plays a role, but, i suspect, no where near enough to explain the massive gap between our physical levels and overseas. Japan is a summer league as well (or was, it is changing) and had similar physical data to the other leagues but we are exponentially lower on the physical metrics*Just heard about half of the Jake Entwhistle Podcast. Jake had just finished one comment and I initially noted a question to comment on, and, Grazor commented about the Australian heat in the summer being a possible factor in slower speed over the turf!
* With all the leagues Aussies are compared to in the data, and I rememebred Grazor citing it up in another thread, which teams out of Japan, USA, Denmark, Scotland and the English Champ, are most relevant for performance? We play Japan a lot. Southern USA probably play in hot conditions a bit, like Aus.
If we play any of Denmark, Scotland or England, or players who play in in those leagues, it is likely to be in a WC in summer. The likelihood is from the data, that Aussies Squeeze less intensively within the type of Press the AL teams deploy.
Notwithstanding, I've noted at times in the ACL, where some of Aus AL teams' opponents also play in hot, tropical climates, they appear to Squeeze more intesively than AL teams do.
I felt that more of the Melb City opponents in the ACL, gave them less time on the ball than their AL team opponents. Hence, City have been able to control games more in the AL, despite not scoring goals!
* I learned that 50% of AL players are under 25. I love this! I lost a bit of interest in the AL when the Tassie bid was overlooked, and, possibly before Covid, the teams had little youth component compared to the present.
In the past many overseas players were in awe of how strong and tough AL players were, despite lacking in technique and tactical nous. Grazor and Jake discussed with so many young players under 25 in the AL, is this still the case?
* Technique of Aus players appears to have been axiomatically accepted as impoved - the obsession of the FFA Tech Dept when I was most involved in coaching. Now physical conditioning appears to have ben added overseas for youth, more than Aus, according to the info presented in the Pod. And we may be behind.
I don't think Jake is a health pro, but it would be interesting to hear a Sports Scientist, like Adam Field, shed light on whether players can make up for it later in one's career. I'm heavily involved in circuit weight training off forum, and have been for 50 years. One can impove one's strength and muscalar bulk at any age.
Jake made some compelling points.
* That Aussies used to dribbling past players in the AL, who might be a bit slower, less nimble and athletic, than in leagues like Scotland, England, Denmark in Europe, might find it more difficult overseas. This is an excellent point!
* I might have finished the ironing, but Jake I think mentioned that if the overseas Aussies went to leagues who Squeezed mor intensively, in colder playing conditions, they could have less time to receive and play on ( handling speed). Very goo d point.
To improve in Aus, we need a greater segment of the season played in the colder months, when teams can Squeeze more intensively for sustained periods within the Full Press, Half Press, Partial Press. I intuit Jpanaese teams Squeeze the most intensively in BPO in Asia.
IMO we need to stretch to 34 home and away games in the AL, instead of 26. The Eredivisie and Portugal play 34 games.
IMO, and supported the work or Raymond Verheijen, in leagues like the English Champ, they play far too much, and players get injured through lack of rest and recovery.
It could also be resolved if all Aus teams played 8-10 games in the ACL, like Melb City and Mac did this season. They have played 34-36 pro games. Even better that they have been intra-continental.
I also suggest that our Asian opponents are due greater consderation than UEFA leagues, in the sense we play them a lot more.
A question I pose from listening to this superb podcast, is to find out at World Cups the number of players from these leagues at World Cups?
*The UEFA Big Five
*Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal.
*The South American Big Two
*Mexican and MLS
*Japan, South K, Saudi and Aus.
*South A?
* Another significant factor for mine, is average length of a playing career in different leagues? Do players in the EPL wear out more quickly than in the slower paced Serie A?
Do AL players have longer careers, like Brattan and Caceres ?
Is Serie A even a league of global significance anymore, given repeated failure of Italy to qualify for WCs?
CAhill had to prove himself for quite a while at a lower level so probably similar climb up the leaguesThis was one of my favourite episodes. Loved the insights into scouting. His profile of future centre forwards read a lot like Toure which I found encouraging.
I know stats remove some biases. But on the flip I wonder how many players get missed now because they don't fit a parameter in a filter. How would Cahill go for example.
Muscat would be brilliant?I agree you about moving on some players after the World Cup - I'm also someone that wants to believe that Popovic is just hiding his grand plan for the World Cup (stupid I know) but I am interested to know who would you consider the right Australian candidates and OS candidate post Popovic.
