Portsmouth and Leeds with 10k. Not even going to bother looking when Elland Road was expanded. They've always been well supported.

There were certainly early EPL days of many empty seats at teams like Bolton and Boro. Facilities improved and something of a big flow of support came.
Not to forget the late 80s crackdown on violence and disbanding the firms.
 
English football was in a big slump in the 80s. Crowd tragedies happened, or were about to happen.
Hooligan firms scared normal people away.
The middle classes despised football during the Thatcher era. It wasn't until the Premier League arrived that they started embracing it.

Not just no soccer/football articles, zero articles. They’ve gone broke or folded. People not paid apparently. My mate is one of the editors of the Age, and they were thinking about doing a story.

I was playing FIFA 11 and started a deep dive in some of the players back then. It's quite interesting id say a lot of players have a season or two where they are good then sort of fade away. It's only like 5% of players you remember who have an amazing career then maybe 10% have a decent one
