General A Leagues thread (Men and Women) 2025/26 season

Not sure how the scheduling has led to Melbourne City only getting one home game in the first seven rounds of the A-League Men season but maybe the fact that they're playing AFC Champions League Elite games also has something to do with it.
Victory only play 2 of their first 7 at home too. Melbourne going to be a soccer ghost town. Bizarre scheduling.

It's actually ridiculous.

I'm not the biggest fan of Melbourne City for multiple reasons, but this could end up being the fork in the road season which pushes them to the southeast.

They play 4 home games between December 23 and January 6. Two of them mid-week. They wont get 20k in total for those four games.

Doubt it, they indicated in a fan forum (or something like that) that they don't really care, aren't moving and extended their contract with AAMI for quite a bit.

Yeah they don't really care about their fans I'm at peace with it

Just a horrible match day experience though. Sub 5k in a 30k seat stadium.

if the club don't care then that's a different conversation. Winning titles and not growing in attendance figures is a concern.

Wellington and Roar both suffer the same atmosphere with sub standard crowds in big stadiums. For sure the supporters a loud but the games look crap on TV with half the stadium empty. However with City being the 2nd club in Victoria and winning a lot of silverware i just don't get why they have such small crowd numbers.

I believe that cfg let's say Stuart Pearce only cares about producing players.

You might have some at the club who cares about bringing in fans or winning the title but the main point of the club is to produce talent like bos azarni mooy etc

Yep, totally agree.

But on the flip side then they could still develop the players without losing money every home game as the costs to open AAMI park are so high.

Could play at the CFG in Cranbourne and still develop the players the right way.

asked this also on the championship thread

guys , do we want a rule where the championship thread and the a league 25/26 thread has debates about trad clubs v a league clubs/ nst v a league/ old soccer new football etc are removed to their own threads in each section.

If people are cool with the status quo happy to leave it, but just wanted to know in case people are sick of people clogging each others threads and leaving a lot of clutter

with respect to the nsl/nst/a league debates that took up a bunch of pages I just made a new thread. Please keep this thread on topic

David Zdrilic has been given the sack by Perth Glory effective immediately, with existing support staff members to take charge of the side on an interim basis for matchday 3 this week and announcement of a new head coaching appointment to be made in due course.

Brutal, but completely idiocy by management.

Entire pre season and season wasted, should have been sacked last season.

Agreed, Perth Glory won the spoon last season and conceded a league-high 56 goals in Zdrilic's first season at the helm, and two games into this season they're already bottom of the ladder. If Glory want to rebuild then they should have brought in new leadership earlier rather than midway through the season.

Happy to see him gone, but also - why do it before you have a replacement? Maybe talks with John Aloisi aready looking fruitful. Still annoyed they got rid of Stajcic for this clown - that was a mess in itself - thought Sage was a f'wit, new guy ....??????

Nothing against.david or anyone personally but the game needed this. It's to much of festival sometimes so this makes things interesting and hopefully improves Perth

It could be argued that last season Zdrillic inherited a list that needed purging which occurred over the break hence the results were always going to be lacklustre. But after two games, it was obvious that the players were not playing for their careers, pride, teammates, coach or club. What was the point of bringing in Wootton, Kaltak, and Rishdon at the same time? One player I can understand to help develop younger team mates, two at a stretch but three?
What is damming for PG, and this is no reflection on Zdillic, is that they have very little youth talent left with Pearman and Bennie gone. BR had an equally dismal season but at least they had young players fans could pin their hopes on. And BR have also lost some of their young players to overseas clubs but there is still more.
I wonder whether the support staff will persist with an old defensive line of three. Right now, I would probably revert to a 4-3-3 with with Rishdon on the left, Wootton as right CB, a new RWB and a new left CB. Kaltak can be on the bench.

You would have to think they have already lined/signed somebody up, because if they haven’t, the clown show just continues to get bigger!

Yeah looking back getting rid of Staj was a mistake, but this what happens when you give jobs to the boys.

If Aloisi comes on board, would genuinely be the first time im excited since Poppa days, even though this season is already a write off.
