General A Leagues thread (Men and Women) 2025/26 season

I tend to agree, I've been to hundreds of Jets games, and I know a lot of ex players in this area, but I've never seen one at the game. I did see Mark Richards though. When I was playing I would rather play than watch.
Very interesting?

We used to have a forum member called PV4, who plays NPL in Newcastle area, and knew a lot of current and former Jets players.

Anyway he used to give us a lot of interesting inside info on the Jets.

I'm involved as a Tas Cricket Member. I'm also surprised that very few ex Tassie Shield players are Crick Tas members, but a few are.

I'm surprised how few ex players in Newcastle watch AL games.

you poor fellas having afl strong in your States.
I hear you though re fellow team mates.
Of our/my 2 squads near on 30 there is just 3/4 so called regular AL followers.
Few more are NRL followers and mostly large qty follow NPL/EPL and other euro leagues.
My 2 sons team mates comprising 4 squads, NPL/Prem1 teams.
Hardly any mention of AL - go to a derby for the heck, follow NPL/EPL in droves.
AFL drives me nuts.

We have endless AFL saturation - all with no Tas involvement.

Just recently we have had a second tier VFL team introduced, which interests me.

Very low conversion to AL supporters in your neck of the woods, LFC.

like melb, would drive me nuts can't stomach the game worse for you not even having a major club to date.

why the interest ?

we are but a pin drop but how many are similar is the million$ question.....
Thats the big Q D for the game for there is countless more not invested just as our neck of the woods.

Yeah I play at shit grade grass roots level and a lot of my teammates don’t really have any interest in the A-League and follow AFL instead lol
I worked with a bloke who was playing football for a SA State League club a few years ago and he wasn't into football at all, it was all about the Crows and AFL for him.

A person playing football regularly in oz is as likely to go to an a league game on a weekend as a person playing regularly in england is to go to an epl game
Ohh. If you add TV audiences though I feel like more English footballers would watch the Prem than Aussie ones watch the A-Liga.

Ufuk Talay has been appointed the new Western Sydney Wanderers head coach for the next two seasons, through the end of A-League Men season 2027-28. He'll join the club's football environment this week and start preparations for season 2026-27, whilst interim head coach Gary van Egmond continues to take charge of the side through season's end.

I don’t even know what to say. This is ridiculous. But he’s clearly not that smart if he’s leaving us for a worse team lol.

At the end of the day, if the points start flowing the fans won't care where the coach has come from. They probably will be probably critical of him though. Probably more so than if he were coming from somewhere else.

I'd say this is all about money. If WSW offered him more, it'd be hard for an Aussie coach not to consider it.
What will be more interesting is which direction SFC go in. Kisnorbo is obviously likely, but let's say they lose their last four and drop out of finals. I doubt the fans would be too happy if Kisnorbo still gets the gig.

Once again WSW reluctance to appoint a DOF and instead just hire the next coach available without any strategy in place shows they never learn their lessons, I don't know how the fans continue to support to them if anything the crowds will dwindle even more now.

It's such a shame given their early success they have been under performing since.

The question is who offered him the job? Without a DOF who is recruiting the coach and even the players? Maybe they are pressured by an agent due to market forces but maybe they need to reflect on who and what kind of club they want to be first before appointing a coach because that's the easy part where the issues are much larger at bay for them.

I'm pissing myself laughing that they think Talay is the answer to their issues.

He'll have to get them above 3rd to even be close to successful. Sydney FC coach this is the equivalent to proposing to your best friends girlfriend
