I've noticed a bit of biff in some threads lately. Is it the pre-christmas jitters?
It often circulates back to a select few users who have certain topics rent free in their head and it flares up from time to time.

Variety is the spice of life my friend.
It would be dam boring otherwise just giggle and move on - no matter what time of the year

It's not unusual for football fans to.take internet pot-shots at each other. Different clubs, different nationalities, different footballing cultures, different expectations of the game....

It's been going on since the first football message board was launched and no doubt carry on until the internet eventually disappears or football fandom as we know it disappears.

I wonder which will happen first?

snitches get stitches.... Some crying for the moderator seem to be the ones with the most insults to throw around.

The Australian politics thread got a little bit tasty this week. A very emotional time for all concerned.

I dropped out of the conversation early on.

I think that human psychology can often dictate that people with strong political identities can often see disagreement as a threat, double down when challenged, filter information through their worldview and quite often treat politics like a team sport rather than a debate...

We're all guilty of this whatever side of the fence you sit. Even those boring twats like me who are kinda poltically middle of the road can get shot down...

It doesn't help when you get a load of football fan types chewing the political fat either!!

I must admit in the threads where I've been posting there has been a terrific sense of camaraderie and civil discussion - cricket, bookreading, AL, ACL, Fan View, Podcasts, etc.

Have to admit I've put one member on Ignore for persistent negativity though - the first time it hasn't been a poster on G and G associated with Anarchy Forum.

I'd happily buy a beer for the vast majority of other G and G posters I see posting in the threads I've been posting in.

I had a brief look at the politics thread. There was a lot of biff. Offline I'm heavily involved in political activism - where there is usually quite a lot of camaraderie and unity of purpose in pursuing just causes.

Politics is adversarial.

I say this as an almost professional political activist. On one's own side there is often a strong sense of camaraderie though. There has to be teamwork to attain success. It diminishes as one interacts with expedient careerists who have ambitions to pursue seats in parliament.

I get that, I think though there does need to start being some moderation
It must be only in some threads though? Ones I don't see.

I'm a current Mod in two other settings, and I've seen barely anything that needs moderating on G and G in recent times. I'm heavy handed on personal attacks too - and intolerant of playing the man, not the ball.

I'm not going to mention their names, but three regular current G and G forum members who were banned at times on IS/442, which surprised me, have been successful acquisitions on G and G.

Also, the G and G mod panel were proactive in banning most of a group who were actively trying to destabilise G and G in the early days. Fair play to them.

442 Mod panel were ineffectual in dealing with the same disruptive group, only belatedly nullifying them.
