FIFA WC 26 - Other Nations LIVE Match Thread ⚽

I've just seen the footage of Spence being clipped before the second goal. Plenty of refs see that and blow and foul and the play is done. Blind officiating.
I'm surprised not more is being made of this. It was clear and it allowed Messi to get down that side to get the cross in.

Granted, England dropped off and their tactics let Argentina back in, but this is the consistency I've been talking about. It leads directly to a goal. Free kick is called, and it's a different game.

The fuckwit comes in with a punch the head and tells the opponent to get up. This has nothing to do with good play. The refs need to be instructed that this still is foul play and it needs to be dealt with.

Like the playful pat Bellingham gave the Argentinian sub after the match?

Yes, England threw it away, Argentina got the calls, Messi and his also men being put to sleep, there for the taking, passionate (not efficient, astute or gifted), lucky to get this far.

Give me your tears Ingleses.

I don't think it's too much to ask that people acknowledge that Argentina are the architects of their own destiny and not some side quest on the way to a European winner.
Let the English chickenhearts be bitter mate, enjoy your win VAMOS ARGENTINA.

I think people would be more than willing to give credit.

However, the fact that almost every game brings up these debates about Argentina and how they got to where they are, and the calls they have got away with, that's the issue. It sullies the game.

Argentina fans and Mess fanboys can go on about how people just whinge etc etc, but the reality is that it just undermines the integrity of the game. I don't expect you to change your view. I don't expect any Argentinian to change their view, but that just speaks more to the game being gone, than anything else.

Ta. Honestly, I blame social media. My feed is blowing up with slow-mos and selective angles that make England look like they played 90 minutes feigning injury and beating the shit out of Argentina with steel bars and knuckle-dusters. It's almost all 100% complete horseshit.

It was a pretty expected result really. Scalloni has been "holding back" every match, made three excellent attacking subs in reaction to going a goal down. Argentina put the peddle to the metal and the result was inevitable.

England replaced with cowardice of Southgate with the cowardice of Tuchel.
I don't know if that's a bit harsh. It's true Argentina made attacking substitutions and went for it but to me neither that, nor the defensive subs of Tuchel fully explain the way that game completely flipped. I wonder if England just ran out of legs. Maybe Florida took much more out of them than most people realise.

He had attacking legs to bring on though to pin Argentina back. Martinez and Romero were both on yellows. Instead he went to a back 5 and England just sat deeper giving up so much territory. I think Tuchel will also regret not bringing TAA & Palmer into the squad for these types of games.

You can't play like that against Argentina, defending a 1-0 lead for 30mins +. You'll always lose.

Why didn't the players just wear helmets. He doesn't get away with that in the EPL I think. The player is down that long they question as to why and check a review.

Confederation doesn't matter but here two raw CONCACAF refs for semifinals losing control has seen very weak refereeing. Refs with big game experience from any confederation were needed.
Makes me kind of think that Faghani is getting the final... ♥️

"fist" with extended fingers?? Shit I hope you dont go around punching people like that, you'll do yourself some damage.
Tend to agee - fist just doesn’t look that clear anyway and like every player today Spence played out just like them all.
Argy bargy been carrying on for decades said it before.
Expect it.
The 3Lions did their bit as well.
The stats is all Argentina hands down deserved win.

England did well to get as far as they did so they shouldn't be too upset. In many ways this demonstrates the pointlessness of a World Cup with so many teams in it. Much in the same way as France with Spain it takes so long to come up against a decent team that everyone gets lulled into a sense of security that a team is definitely going to win it.

Such a pointless war for a strategically pointless rock.
This is my take from another thread, and yes, pointless -

The Falklands have been claimed and/or inhabited by a number of people including pre-colombians, England, Spain, the Netherlands and Argentina. All of those countries up and left the islands at one time or another only to be replaced. In England's case, it was previewed as part of the Napoleonic wars by two invasions of the River Plate as European powers scuffled over the plunder and colonisation of the Americas and control of the trade of slaves and goods. Those invasions served ultimately to strengthen local resistance and the independence movement.

Colonisation is fucked up, the Falklands War was fucked up, the Junta was fucked up and so was Thatcher's England.

Who do we want to win? Spain with their first win in 16 years or Argentina to settle the GOAT debate? I kinda want Spain to win it despite their federation having a disgraceful recent history.

To me personally Messi is already the "goat". He's won everything already so he's up there Maradona who is the OG goat.

Would be nice for Spain to win as not many people are feeling the love for Argentina throughout this tournament.
