Messi scores an ok goal, and I'm seeing everywhere talk about it as majestic and stunning. There's been far better goals so far that have not had the same reaction.

Great player and all, but we need to stop with this constant over glazing of certain players.

To be fair Erling Haaland has played a pivotal role for Norway throughout their World Cup qualification campaign as well as during the World Cup proper in terms of creating chances and finding the back of the net.

I’m sure he has, but he was part of an unsuccessful WCQ campaign last WC in Qatar.

Not long ago Norway played hoofball too. Now they are playing deck football, looking more like Netherlands anywhere, or Belgium in Europe.

Also, there was plenty of quality across the pitch besides Haaland too. It is good to see.

He is the backbone period - debuted 2019 - you can have a great "core" around any team but you need goals to WIN and that he does for the last 6yrs importantly the last 4/5yrs building up to this WC.

Still watch Serie A Cup games and Scottish Cup games on Paramount though, and, international fixtures on YT.

I know Haaland is a big name corporate footballer, but until now he had never played the ultimate - the WC.

I’ve also had a fair bit of access to coaching practices analyzing trends in UEFA, which often have global ramifications.

Anyway thanks for the update. Haaland scoring 55 goals in 49 international appearances is phenomenal!

Yes and no - tactics change, form on the day, it’s that black and white barring an average squad lacking players who can switch their character to suit.

Norway would be terrible without Haaland.

- They are organised in defence.

- The players are supporting the ball carrier by opening angled passing lanes in the build up, and, playing on the deck.

- In the parts of the game I watched they were beating Iraq in 1v1s.

One problem they have is too much height - like many UEFA teams. Too many tall players can’t negate shorter, nimble players like Irankunda. the Japanese players, and a younger Messi. They are too cumbersome and slow on the turn.

No need mate - the best are bank rolled even back in the day no obvious corporate backing but all top clubs always had wealthy ogarlords in the background that wasn’t publicised like today.
