FIFA WC 26 - Other Nations LIVE Match Thread ⚽

South Korea can still make the round of 32 but other results will have to go their way for them to make the eight best third-placed sides and South Africa will be playing Canada in their first ever World Cup knockout game to get the round of 32 underway.
Damn I've just seen the 3rd place table, so the tweet I read is wrong. :ROFLMAO:

I will blame that for this confusion lol.

well, for a bit of perspective there was post gloating in some ways how well AFC did in 1 game the 1st.
Its a long game eh you put your neck out sometimes it gets chopped.
I think the AFC is humbling the UEFA scepticism more than UEFA stamping its foot down but the other confederations have had good results too.

And rightly so
Swings and roundabouts
Different climate
48 NT’s
Cup football
How could it go to script
Hence don’t put your necks out

Scotland put their necks out and the unicorn horns got torn off.

I think some Europeans just refuse to accept that some non-European teams are better than some good European teams.
Not unusual
Americans think the same about the rest of the world.
Aussies think down on most Asian countries.
What’s new
Nothing

Are we wrong? We're still learning about Asian conditions even after 20 years.
In what context? We all constantly harp on about how we’re so far behind Japan and Korea. We’re in our own version of the Sputnik Crisis (when the West, especially the US, was scared that the Soviets were at one point beating the US in the Space Race).

Maybe we talk about how countries like China and India aren’t any good but that’s because they really aren’t and stats prove that. I was referring to the Europeans that still underestimate teams like Japan and Senegal because they’re not European or South American. Look at how many people doubted Son Heung-min because he was Korean or Ange Postecoglou because he was Aussie (born in Greece but he lived most of his life here and played for the Socceroos). People accused 433 of buying voters in a poll that said Melchie Dumornay from Haiti was one of the best female players in the world.

Hopefully one day we grow out of this, like how we don’t doubt white rappers or black country singers anymore after Eminem and Darius Rucker got successful, or like how we don’t doubt women in power as more and more women took leadership roles worldwide. But at the moment, we’re still seeing mainstream content creators, pundits, scouts, etc ignore us and doubt us.
If we made the proper investments that SE Asian football has made then we'd be even better.
Indonesia still relies on diaspora from Australia and the Netherlands to be decent and they still can’t make the World Cup. The other teams are worse and also rely on diaspora or naturalised players from countries like Australia, the US, etc. They absolutely love their football in SEA and I’ve seen that with my own eyes so many times. But they’re still not good at it unfortunately and they still need to upgrade and improve basic infrastructure.

Yes, but how often do we get pinged by someone like Bahrain, or Oman and we sit there and wonder why?

Good point, but that’s more so down to our own tactical failures. Compare us with Turkey whose own captain said we were shit so they automatically would win. If our captain or coach openly said our opposition was shit so we’d automatically win then it would be the same. But that hasn’t really happened, we’re just managed poorly and do things the wrong way (and even then often still get results somehow).

Our playing staff don't, but I can tell you a lot of us do

Turkey is the 2nd best Asian team and we beat them,!

Saw the last 30 mins of Brazil V Scotland. Unless a Brazil goal was scored when I went out of the room, Scotland looked better than when I've seen them prior. I think they are getting their act together, but it might be too late.
