FIFA WC 26 - Other Nations LIVE Match Thread ⚽

Kristoffer Ajer yellow carded in the 117th minute in extra time for Norway for an argument, becoming the first player to receive one this match.

England got the job done 2-1 over Norway after extra time in their World Cup quarterfinal to advance to the semi-finals, where they'll face either Lionel Messi and Argentina or Switzerland.

I personally believe the World Cup needs England to win it.

We’re in an era where club football is increasingly taking precedence over international football. England, as the biggest football market and home to the world’s most lucrative domestic league, is uniquely placed to give the international game a much-needed shot in the arm. An England triumph would reignite national pride and remind fans why the World Cup matters. Just as importantly, rival fans would spend the next four years desperate to knock them off their perch, making the build-up to the next tournament even more compelling. I just wish the World Cup was still 32 teams.

The fact that England hasn't hosted a world cup since 1966 is a joke. It's been awarded corruptly for over 2 decades.

It's correct that the number of club games is taking a toll on players and it's exhausting.

Nothing when it’s England apparently. Surely those blowing up about the Egypt game will be just as filthy about this
Egyptians complaining about refs, should be quiet.

The Uruguayan referee took 105 minutes to issue a yellow card in the AUS-EGY match. Once again the top brass at FA failed in the dark arts game by not challenging the appointment or at least making a media circus to put the biased t-nuc on notice.

In the meanwhile a straight red on Bos was not given (the only player that looked likely to make something happen when the ball was at his feet), seven challenges in the first half to which the self esteemed andy harper would have described as "agricultural" and not one yellow and another half dozen in the second half. Only after the first card was given were the challenges and play normal football instead of ovalball.

Sure some of the ref decisions were biased during the ARG-EGY game and I am sure if Australia progressed, they would have suffered the same fate.

Australian players are getting better and the quality will start to shine through in the upcoming years. It is the executives of the FA who need to go down to the butcher shop and buy some spine, guts, brains, eyes and importantly balls so they can at least play the dark arts game to give the players some level of off pitch advantage or at best fairness.

I'm seeing a lot of noise and meltdowns online about how the refs favoured England and how it was "rigged" for them to win. As someone with English family I'm naturally going for England so my assessment is biased, but I feel like it was just a bad refereeing performance rather than them specifically favouring England or there being some conspiracy. Am I taking crazy pills?

The standard of refereeing has largely been inconsistent for the entirety of this World Cup cycle though so it's understandable that there are accusations of games being rigged.
