Need is different to want.

They don't need money - the money from the World Cup is surely more than enough to sustain FIFA and provide some for development to nations already (as they already do).
He's pushing this as a smokescreen for a sugarhit.

Dynamic pricing needs to be dealt with by local consumer laws in the country the event is in. If the EU or individual European countries don't introduce laws to control it then it's got nothing to do with the USA or FIFA.
 
The aim is to get the wealthy on board to pay the highest ticket prices. They want more from wealthy Chinese and Arabs. The average fan hasn't been the target for 20 years.

Prudence should prevail where drink breaks won't become a thing in the vast majority of places.

Leagues and tournaments in turn will seek out sponsorship as they need financing.

The EPL has already become a plastic hell hole in its own right and has nothing to do with FIFA.
 
Besides hydration breaks with ads, a half time show, live singers for a few anthems, what else about football is being Americanised?

The showing of celebrities was only matched by 2022 and the most recent Euros cutting to fans during every lull in play. It's annoying regardless.


The ticket situation worked out for FIFA because demand was there. It's greed but also market forces at play.

UCL has entertainment at the final. The football at the world cup remained the same.

For anyone worried about this the best thing to do is to lobby their club to shield against it. If it's a big club, fat chance. Those clubs already have fan groups campaigning to revert back to the working class ways. Other options include supporting lower tier clubs or boycotting completely.

I guess the question is whether FIFA can have any overreach in confederations or national associations. Each are dysfunctional in their own way.

Germany is becoming less of a fan paradise than years before. It's still very good but ticket prices keep going up and many clubs are sneaking in ways to undermine active support and ultras and want new upper class fans with money.

People who support lower tier clubs have less to worry about any people who live in a place like Grimsby but support Manchester City are a joke.

I didn't agree with the breaks but they really weren't as bad as made out and other tournaments and leagues have said they won't be doing them. Should they eventually implement breaks it's on them and has nothing to do with FIFA or Americanisation.

It's in each league's hand to decide. Of course the breaks were used for ads but the absolute initial concept was due to the incessant heat at the CWC the previous year. Probably only seconds later in the same meeting did someone suggest the advertising opportunity.

I think the breaks refreshed players that led to some more intense and exciting games. Thankfully the EPL now has rules against keeper timeouts which actually went longer than the drink breaks.

The breaks in theory weren't an issue - they've existed in the Laws for eons - but it was clear it wasn't solely for 'player welfare' as they did them in every game.

It's like an old thing in F1, where Bernie Ecclestone added a turbine fan to the back of his team's car to suck it to the ground - because it's deemed 'primary use' was to cool the car, so it was allowed.

Despite the fact that some of stadium were climate controlled and under a roof or did the organising committee forget that in their careful consideration of player welfare???? Cmon man, it was an ad break, why not just admit it outright at this stage.

Leagues also argued against VAR but look where we are, were a single match can be decided by the hair on a players head making a sound.... whats next instead of the "hand of God" the clicking of the fingers al a Cricket?
