English Premier League 🦁

Newcastle in the 90s and 00s were massive despite there lack of success. Competing for EPL titles, Champions League, so when they got relegated it was a huge deal.

Not to mention there fan base is massive, probably the best in England.
I see what you’re saying, but Tottenham actually won two trophies this century, PLUS we also competed for league titles in the 2010s. Therefore, Spurs going down is a bigger story.

Would spurs being relegated be bigger than when newcastle went down over a decade ago?
Yes, as someone suggested earlier in the week Spurs going down with the quality of their side is as big as when we (Leeds) went down in 2003/2004 with the likes of Alan Smith, Viduka, Matteo, Bowyer, Milner etc in the squad.

Spurs next 6 games...if i'm a betting man...

Spurs should be getting wins against Leeds United and bottom-placed Wolves at least in the run home so could well pull off the great escape and stay up this season but ideally every result in the home stretch needs to be going their way.

Romero out rest of season don't forget - huge loss for them.
Loss to Seagulls.
Wolves despite bottom their home game saving some face nearing the end - predict draw or win to Wolves upset.
Villa away loss.
Home game vs Leeds, hard call they are better form right now but this is 3games later - I see way more fight in Leeds.
Last 2 Chelsea A followed by Toffees @ home.

They have a dam challenging finish to survive the way I see it and other results either go their way and not.

Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva is leaving the club at season's end upon the expiration of his contract, ending a nine-year stay at the side where he made 451 appearances, scored 76 goals and recorded 77 assists, in addition to winning 19 major trophies including the treble in season 2022-23.

SHOULD being the word here. There's a lot of games on paper that Spurs SHOULD have gotten points at this season but didn't. Still there's a lot that can still happen.

With West Ham in pretty decent form of late I think Forest is the team they need to overtake, and they've got a pretty difficult finish to the season.

Spurs going down would be big given their achievements the past decade and general following and presence. I think this is actually a good thing for them and the leagues. People forget Villa went down and they have rebuilt. I say this because comparable teams In Germany such as Bremen, Schalke, Stuttgart have all gone down. These were regular UCL and title winners.

The issue for Spurs isn't really the manager or players but rotten management which may or may not be fixed by relegation. The stories a relegation will bring when they hve to face Lincoln next season is what the game needs. Spurs fans should embrace it too as there are only so many times you can go to the same EPL opponents and it gets stale.

It's time for Hannover to go up again but I've enjoyed Bundesliga 2. You're much closer to the players and the club isn't as corporate. No stupid kick of times either. Spurs fans will enjoy more Saturday matches and not the stupid late Sundays or Monday nights.

Except Spurs are a business first according to our owners (well, at least our past chairman). We would lose lots of money by getting relegated. The money lost after a 17th place finish is way less than the money lost after an 18th place finish because by going down you lose sponsors, TV deals, etc, plus you don’t gain as many new fans since globally speaking the Prem is king. Everyone wants to watch the Prem, but the lower leagues are less popular and the lower you get in the pyramid the more local you find fanbases (for example a club in the very bottom tier will pretty much be exclusively followed by locals from the club’s area, whereas the biggest clubs in England are household names and watched all over the globe).

To be fair Spurs would still be getting parachute payments if they were to be relegated which should offset the lost revenue from suffering the drop and they have the same benefit as Premier League sides of entering the FA Cup in the third round proper even whilst playing in the Championship.

Spurs would benefit from rekindling with local fans. I get the goal is to be a global brand of an epic scale but you'd be surprised how many lower tier clubs also have foreign fans who make occasional trips to matches.

The trouble is a stadium of that scale costs a lot as do player wages so whether they can drop ticket prices next season remains to be seen. You can bet away tickets will be very popular with all these new destinations and generally a good chance of winning. It should be embraced if it happens.
