English Premier League 🦁

England just can't seem to produce quality managers. No Englishman has ever won the Premier League as a manager since it was created in 1992. The last English manager to win the First Division was ironically in 1991–92 though: Howard Wilkinson with Leeds United.

That won't change this season either: Mikel Arteta, Pep Guardiola and Unai Emery are all Spanish so it'll pretty much certainly be a Spaniard that wins it. Unless Michael Carrick wins it with Man United in the future that won't change in the next few seasons either.
England has this obsession that the England manager needs to be English, but they have not produced a quality one in ages. Even Southgate who had relative success was far too conservative when it mattered.

The rest of Europe loses a semi and they go crazy to fix it. England loses a semi and it's celebrated as an achievement. They won't produce a good manager unless they change their mentality.

I'm an England fan through and through but I very much doubt we will ever win another WC in my lifetime...

Maybe a semi is as good as it's gonna get for us. But to be honest that doesn't worry me at all...

When it comes to sporting culture football is king....

Always has been and always will be and WC success won't change that in any shape or form...

This is the most important thing for me.

Having said that I do really believe World Cup success for our amazing women's team will happen....

Which I hope will push the women’s game in England further into the hearts and minds of the general football community.

I made the choice to be an England fan when I was young, not sure why.

In saying that, I think England are capable of winning the World Cup, we just don't want to. We are content with basic success. Make a semi and it's considered a win. Just need to look at the Euro final against Italy. At Wembley, it felt like everyone thought we already won it before it started. Then we went up by 1 and just sat back. Didn't even bother to try and put them to the sword. Even then, Southgate was being lauded.

I remember after England lost in 2016 to Iceland, Hodgson came to the press conference and said, "I'm not sure why I'm here. I'm no longer the manager". No apology for abject performance or the way things went.

I do agree here but with nuance. The Lionesses got very lucky to win the Euros in 2025. Sweden really shoulda knocked them out and they robbed Italy in the semis.

Stale atmosphere in the games tonight so far. Spurs, Chelsea and Everton just woefully silent.

West Ham leading Manchester United 1-0 near the end of regulation time in their Premier League game. As it stands they are currently level on 26 points with Nottingham Forest, with inferior for and against putting them in the relegation zone.

I made a WSL thread too by the way, feel free to check it out!

Spurs are in the thick of it now. Honestly, get Brighton gone. All those empty seats near the end while being only a goal down in that peculiar rivalry is laughable.

Brighton aren't some minnow anymore but have this odd result pattern. The fans appear discontent but they've got to realise their place.

Fark. Big for the relegation battle but the hair isn't coming off.
Hope he does cut it eventually and donates the money to charity. Maybe the hair can be used for a wig that cancer patients have?
