Debate thread on all things A league v nst

But, you don't watch or have any interest in a league that you hope dies a death, ASAP.
No I watch the highlights sometimes... Even the odd match or two in the off season... Its hard not to know what the RBB is or the Victory Agria Horta guys... never seen any national flags displayed and was wondering...

The RBB at the time was a breakaway fraction from Sydney Croatia, ex SFC " fans".

If they had of displayed foreign flags, they would have been shut down at the time.

I’m not sure about that, I think a lot of the core at that time were Croatian but im not sure if they were ever Sydney united fans per se were they. There was also a large South America contingent within the group. Very niche this but im pretty sure outside of soccer they were a group known as the “West Sydney skins” (red and anarchist skinheads) I might be wrong, that just from an outside observer’s perspective

Um, Anarcho-commies and Croatians all in the same group?? Thats wild.

Ok, but are there any land deals or developments associated with the club's existence?
WU was pretty clear from the beginning. Free council land to build stadium, office buildings and residential buildings.
One of the owners may be a property developer, but it doesn't seem like that has anything to do with the motivation for the club existing.
My take from memory. While the Macarthur region including Macarthur Rams wanted a team the Rams were not part of the winning consortium. The Bulls wanted the Rams to be a feeder club to which the Rams gave a short predictable answer. This forced the Bulls to set up their academy. They in reality didn't - they took the Northbridge academy (previously the North Shore Mariners). They still run out of Northbridge so the community connection in a rapidly expanding part of Sydney is virtually non-existent

Sorry I must have missed it.. TBF Beretta calls EVERYONE he hates a Yugo. hahahahahahaha
There’s actually a little often overlooked nod to that connection in the name “red and black bloc”

I think it’s probably less relevant now than at the time of the groups creation

It’s interesting coz now I would say Sydney fc are probably more heavily associated with modern left leaning politics and the wanderers harbour more of that working class anti PC sentiment.

My 2c ..Say what you will about modern football/a league clubs, but the sydney fc v wanderers rivalry is much more “real” and has a lot more to it than the Melbourne a league derby is regardless of the way the clubs themselves were formed

SCC

they are not a break away from sydney croatia.

there was only one croat that never attended sydney croatia games, they were all mainly South Americans & Italians.

The founder is Croatian and a RASH skin, that’s why beretta called him a yugo the other day haha

Boris the yugo, dont think he's ever stepped foot at king tom.

Harry Karl is the other, he came later though. (former marconi and knights player in the NSL) does real estate now

But there was still plenty of Croatians in their leadership group. It was well known in A league circles.

here is a fun fact.

Back when the WSW fan forums were on around 2011 & 2012, they went around to clubs like Mounties and Marconi, where they asked fans about club colours, active support etc. Active Sydney United fans went, i guess curiosity more than anything. The name Red & Black Bloc was a piss take created by the SUS, because of the Eastern Bloc being a communist term etc. We knew there active fans would gravitate to it because of who was involved, and it did.

Interesting, that’s a new one for me, was aware of some cross pollination occurring during that era but didn’t know the specifics around it

I tend to avoid/am not a fan of commenting on or name dropping individuals on the internet personally, but a minor correction on this one, he technically has been coz I seem to recall one of the wanderers first ever games being a friendly v Sydney united at king Tom. Funny coz there’s no way they’d think that would be a good idea to organise a friendly like that between those 2 clubs open to the public now
