Debate thread on all things A league v nst

Does anyone know what the motivation of the Macarthur owners is? With Western United, it was (and continues to be) a land grab deal. They saw a business opportunity and took advantage of it. I don't like it, but have to respect the hustle. Macarthur on the other hand is kinda confusing. They were never going to see WSW levels of success early on, and seem to constantly work against the fans. Why bother owning an A-League club at all?
This is what ive always said, ok..whether you view it as business or a club for people..when you start a new entity, who is it for, who is your target audience..there was a demand for the traditional clubs, they formed organically to service that niche, Sydney fc (or Melbourne victory) there were people who wanted/were asking for a club representing the city without any affiliation to any particular ethnic group, like it or not, there was a demand for that, and they filled that niche. Wanderers..like it or not, agree with it or not, there were people who wanted that broad based non ethnically aligned club but felt that Sydney fc ignored/didn’t represent the working class half of the city so there was a demand for/people asking for a club to represent those, wanderers filled that niche..MacArthur…who’s it for, no one wanted it, no one asked for it, and they didn’t try to target anyone specific. How can you start a club for a group of people who aren’t specified and aren’t asking for a club. Also the area they claim isn’t particularly distinct from the broader “western Sydney”

The funny thing was with WSWFC is that it was mainly foreigners in the RBB.

Isn't one of the owners at Bulls a property developer?

I don't what the Sydney Croatia guys are doing there but I would assume Mario Bisetto wants a football club as an excuse to visit Aleague grounds and ask punters if they know who he was.... its a step up from Victorian NPL punters not knowing who he is.

Ok, but are there any land deals or developments associated with the club's existence?
WU was pretty clear from the beginning. Free council land to build stadium, office buildings and residential buildings.
One of the owners may be a property developer, but it doesn't seem like that has anything to do with the motivation for the club existing.

Excuse the pointless rant I’m about to go on.. i know it won’t happen, and probably now it’s too late and many fans won’t want it to happen, but I always find myself thinking.. in hindsight, if they’d just swapped out western united and macarthur for south Melbourne and Marconi, maybe bring in a Wollongong..they could have nipped a lot of this in the bud. As a for instance, maybe I’m biased but two perfect candidates Hellas and Marconi, you’ve got 2 ready made clubs who have shown themselves to be financially sustainable and resilient, they have affordable access to perfect appropriately sized facilities, who have an unparalleled history in the game, the two most successful clubs from the pre a league era from the countries two largest cities, they would have presented relatively little risk of crowd trouble or controversy, you’d have extended an olive branch and built a bridge between old soccer and new football, and given the impression to aspirational clubs that if they’re good enough the door is open, you would have created new rivalries and reintroduced old ones. But instead the battle lines are well and truly drawn between old and new because of the sentiment that traditional clubs will never have a path back to the top no matter what unless drastic action is taken

HAhahahahaha No mate you're not suppose to climb back ONTO a sinking ship :P

Not to mention you’d have brought back two of the countries biggest football factories back in from the cold.

Yea now it’s probably too late
Hahah Keep Up (pun intended) the Aleague academies are the new nurseries now, and they are firing, we have more players in 2nd and 3rd divisions of lesser known countries in Europe than at any stage of our history...
