There IS no debate mate, I don't believe soccer in this country will get anywhere... we few "US" will eventually dwindle and die off and "You" will get sick of a promise of sport to rival the EPL glory and stop watching eventually...

You dont change the US v them you harness it to drive rivalries which inturn drive up the game via derbies in this country! Kumbaya shit maybe nice fluff in keeping with the times, but it doesnt work the world over, especially not in football.. football needs authority from the top (Uefa shows the way) that looks after the game bc it serves its interests to do so, and clubs that feel the threat of expulsion if they dont comply!

on top of a home and away nst I'd love to see a leagues cup to see these rivalries on the pitch where they belong

As much as i love that idea, it would take too much away from the AU Cup lustre imo. I think a playoff bw championship winner and AL premier or champion would be a more intersting yearly drawcard that wont overly clog the calendar!

It would work if there is 2 leagues set up properly and aligned....until then you will struggle to find middle ground for game dates etc a league cup would be the icing om the cake of a pyramid with full h&a seasons!

The playoff however would alot right in to current system.. grow the hype we already seen from AU cup and keep the belief we are actually progressing somewhat...call it the 'Super Cup' and build on that rivalry we alluded to earlier...

Its a hard reality thats been lived the last 20 years +, its made us all of cynical bc we have seen/lived the worst of it since the NSL and what came later. I dont blame him, infact i actually agree with him, the only hope is that we take a step with the championship to actually go full season and soon bc the momentum will become lost in this current format imo. We are one 'murder' of hope away from no recovery. This is why you have seen the last gasp reinvigorating of the support base.
If progress isnt lived then at some stage yes we will see the end of the old guard, with no hope of return.

You wont see the end of the AL most likely but you also wont see any sort of growth.. thats the point Mono is making. You will shpport either way, as we do but what comes after id we cant even utilise the now?
